A Long Night in Paris
A Long Night in Paris: The must-read thriller from the new master of spy fiction | Dov Alfon
8 posts | 3 read | 11 to read
From a former Israeli intelligence officer, comes the most realistic, thrilling and authentic thriller of the year. Chinese gangsters and Israeli intelligence face off in Paris - Israel's bestselling book of 2017, perfect for fans of Homeland, John Le Carr and Mick Herron "Fast action, clever plotting and a Bond-esque lead character who drives the narrative forward at every turn . . . This is high octane spy action" Manda Scott When an Israeli tech entrepreneur disappears from Charles de Gaulle airport with a woman in red, logic dictates youthful indiscretion. But Israel is on a state of high alert nonetheless. Colonel Zeev Abadi, the new head of Unit 8200's autonomous Special Section, who just happens to be in Paris, also just happens to have arrived on the same flight. For Commissaire Lger of the Paris Police coincidences have their reasons, and most are suspect. When a second young Israeli is kidnapped soon after arriving on the same flight, this time at gunpoint from his hotel room, his suspicions are confirmed - and a diplomatic incident looms. Back in Tel Aviv, Lieutenant Oriana Talmor, Abadi's deputy, is his only ally, applying her sharp wits to the race to identify the victims and the reasons behind their abduction. In Paris a covert Chinese commando team listens to the investigation unfurl and watches from the rooftops. While by the hour the morgue receives more bodies from the river and the city's arrondissements. The clock has been set. And this could be a long night in the City of Lights.

In such an urban warfare setting, he was supposed to advance slowly and methodically...

I am enjoying the black humour in amongst the tension in this spy thriller.

First Israeli spy thriller for me, and it‘s fast enough to be gulped down in one sitting. It won the CWA International Dagger; well deserved! I‘ve been into the Slow Horses series for their cynicism and louche humor; this one is faster, just as fun, though more earnest, less cynical. The author was in Israeli Intelligence before turning to writing and editing. French cop, Israeli agents,Chinese spies! Props to translator: smooth, well done!

@24in48 #24in48

This book has to be my favourite I've read over the weekend - short chapters full of suspense, my first (but not last) espionage novel & an insight into Jewish culture - means that I'm looking for more books by this author & this genre! Cannot recommend highly enough as I think it will stay with me for some time!

3rd book for @24in48 completed - this is the time I've spent reading today - at about 11 hours so far.

This book is excellent - a definite 5 🌟 - and there's a lot of quotes about viewing Paris from above, so works for #feelsohigh too! Cindy if you like espionage novels I can thoroughly recommend this one! #lilithjuly @Cinfhen @KarenUK

Also tagging @ScorpioBookDreams and @Libby1 because they enjoyed my #whodunituk picks!

BarbaraBB You were shopping at Waterstones? Their Buy One Get One Half Price always makes me buy more than I intended to! 6y
jenniferw88 @BarbaraBB lol, yes, although I don't always find books I want on offer! Both of these were Books of the Month for June, which is also surprising to me as they don't often have books on that offer that tempt me! 6y
BarbaraBB I am not always tempted by their books of the month too. You were lucky though this month! 6y
Cinfhen Oh wow!! I am surprised too!! But yay!!! I didn‘t want to get sucked up in a new series 🤪 6y
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen added bonus for you for the tagged book is that it was translated from the hebrew!!! 6y
Cinfhen I haven‘t seen it in our local book shop!! Im gonna go have another look 6y
