The illustrations in this picture book are beautiful. This is a great book for non-Muslim children to understand what a hijab is and for representation for those who wear one.

Using wonderful illustrations, this book discusses how various women choose to wear their hijab. So informative, especially the last page, which further explains the Islamic practice of wearing a hijab. This is a bright, cheery book, with rhyming text. I‘m so glad my library has a copy of this one! Letter U for #BBRC #A2Z

From the author of Amina‘s Voice, Under My Hijab is a celebration of the diversity amongst Muslim women. A young girl observes the different ways the women in her family wear the 🧕 in public and in their professional lives. A shout out to the illustrator Aaliya Jaleel, who illustrated this book while a student in college. Very impressive! 😮😍
A young girl moves through the day with the women of her family and her friends, showing them with their hijabs in public, and without them in private.
A note from the author at the end explains how the hijab is worn as an expression of faith for Muslim women, and how some women (like the author) choose not to wear hijab based on their interpretation of Islamic religious requirements.
