A feel good coming of age novel set in #Eswatini (former Swaziland). Two teenage girls with completely different backgrounds are brought together on boarding school. There is a lot of racism and prejudices but once they get to know each other, they have much more in common than they thought.

Librarybelle Oh! Jane Austen inspired! 2y
LeahBergen This sounds good 👍 2y
BarbaraBB @Librarybelle I was wrong… I meant Jane Eyre 🤦🏻‍♀️ 2y
Librarybelle Haha…no worries! That still interest me, but a very different tone indeed! 2y

Pickpick

A mixed race girl, Adele, who was always been in the popular group, has been nudged out of the group & must share her dorm room and school year with a poor girl who‘s always the butt of everyone‘s gossip and ill will. Through good times (reading Jane Eyre together) & bad (enduring the popular girls‘ bullying), they become best friends. As frustrating as Adele is at the beginning of the book, I think she is described perfectly—what I think her ⬇️

Texreader reality was like always trying to fit into the popular crowd. And we see her growth to a beautiful dynamic ending that I don‘t think you can fully appreciate unless you listen to the audiobook. I learned a lot about the racism in #Swaziland and what life must be like there. Recommended. #readingafrica2022 2y
BarbaraBB Great review. I‘m about to start this one. 2y
Texreader @BarbaraBB I hope you enjoy it. I struggled with the first half or so because Adele is really very annoying for a good long time. But it served its purpose for the story and was worth it. 2y
Librarybelle Great review, as always! 2y

I just finished this book and this is one of those books that must be heard and not read. There is a gorgeous, beautiful surprise in the last chapter. It was an awesome surprise so I won‘t give it away. Drop that ebook or IRL copy you‘re reading and go grab the audiobook! It‘s worth it. Review to come. #Swaziland #readingafrica2022 @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB

For the #ReadAroundTheWorldChallenge, this month is #Swaziland- and this excellent YA/coming-of-age novel is the one I chose. And I loved it!! Set in a boarding school, this book was a captivating listen! The author brings the girls, the school and the country all to life here! I had a hard time pulling myself away from listening- so that meant longer #audiowalks and more #AudioColoring!
