Been reading Joanna Shupe for about 5 years now and I always come back to Magnate as the book that started it all. The first historical romance book that did NOT take place in Regency or Victorian England with dukes and earls and whatnot. Joanna Shupe introduced me to the Gilded Age of 1895 New York City and I ever since I have been obsessed with this time period. Magnate is the book that started it all and it still ranks as my favorite of hers.

So good. I plan to read the rest of the series immediately. Self-made steel magnate approached by a high-society heiress who needs a front for her (secret) stock brokerage firm. They overcome a forced wedding and trust issues on their way to HEA in Gilded Age NYC.

I just adored this one! New York, late 1800/early 1900 historical romance is a great thing. I loved the two main characters, the story and conflict was fun and I zipped through this book. This is the 2nd book in this series and I‘ll definitely be reading the rest. #romantsy #historicalromance

I "read" my books through Audible so the narrator has an important role in the review. I liked this story but the narrator was not very good. She did not have a very good reading style. I have already gotten the next book in the series through kindle.

Starting my #readathon off with getting some progress done on this. Gilded Age New York! Emmett's a hard sell at times, but I love Lizzie.

It's #ReadABookDay so I asked my coworkers to help out with showing off some of the books we've worked on recently. I think my coworker's face says it all- we really loved this book! It's funny, sexy, rich, and completely enthralling. I'm a huge historical romance fan, and Joanna surpasses my expectations every time.

Although I love the premise (ambitious Gilded Age lady stockbroker!), the execution not so much. The hero was too high on the overbearing asshole romance hero scale for me, the heroine was literally referred to as his reward, & there was a random sexual assault solely to raise the dramatic stakes.

I'm liking this book overall (Gilded Age romance inspired by the life of Victoria Woodhull!) but this part...ugh😓. 1) maybe it's my hatred of fish, but that's more gross than sexy imo, and 2) come on, she's a high society heiress! Surely her table manners are better than this! Use a napkin!
