Michael Dorris. I read A Yellow Raft in Blue Water and was hooked. Read his books and essays and am glad he shared his talent while he could.

Four books from my shelves with #water in the title. Two I loved; two were so-so. #noteworthyNovember @Jess7

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled How was Yellow Raft? I have that in my TBR. 6y
Lcsmcat @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I loved it. Each third of the book is told from a different generation‘s perspective, starting with the granddaughter, then the mother, then the grandmother. As it goes back in time it becomes more intricate and complex. 6y

The view from my favorite reading spot includes a view of my newest bookshelf. When my daughter saw it, she said "You need more books. It's empty." #fallstacks @Liberty

Mehso-so

This is somewhere between so-so and pick. It takes about 100 pages to become interesting. It's narrated by 3 women in a family: granddaughter, mother, & grandmother. Each has their own section and POV, and with each woman we move back in time and gain better understanding of the anger and secrets that move through the novel.
This book wasn't for me. Beautiful writing, strong sense of place & time, but I couldn't stay interested.

This is definitely a "lyrical saga." I think when publishers say that, they really want to say "it's well written but it moves slowly and we don't want anyone turned off by that."

There's not much plot so far...The characters are interesting, if a little typical. It's not exactly my favorite kind of novel but I'm not ready to give up yet.

Book mail! My first month of Read Dog ?. The idea is that you create a "reader profile" on their website, in which you tell them what books/genres you like, how you like to read, how often, etc. and each month they send you a book they think you'd like. If you've already read the book, you let them know and they'll send you a new one. The website is read.dog
Excited to dig in!
