Just had my Finish snack- flatbread from Finland and lingonberry jam. It was challenging to eat vegan but I love lingonberry jam â¤ï¸ #foodandlit
I really enjoyed this children‘s book that takes place in Norway during German Occupation. So glad I read this for #foodandlit #norway
Picked up this battered 1963 edition of McSwigan‘s 1942 true children‘s story about how gold was smuggled out of Norway under the Nazi‘s noses!
I see that there is a 1968 movie based on the book (available for free to AMZN Prime members) too.
And yes, I picked it up for the pulpy cover ðŸ˜
Nazi soldiers invade Norway. Rather than allow them to capture the country's gold bullion. Peter Lundstrom's Uncle Victor comes up with a plan to get it out of the country. Using children to transport the gold on sleds, groups of children go sledding past them daily carrying bricks of gold to the coast where Victor's ship is hidden.
Tension during wartime and how the Nazis took over and forced others to join their army.
Good story!
