#2023Book8
I originally read this back in 8th grade. I don‘t remember what I thought of it then, but I really enjoyed this re-read. I think I have a greater appreciation for the characters and their struggles now that I‘ve worked with kids who are in foster care.

Loved this book, I thought it will have a sad ending but by contrary it was so full of hope, love and happiness, perfect read for Christmas. A pick!

It also helped me to finally finish #PromptMaze Q3 (covers pictured)... only 3 months too late 😃 @TheAromaOfBooks

Hope everyone who celebrates Christmas had a happy one. Happy Holidays to all!

TheAromaofBooks Literally have been stuck in the Q3 maze since I posted it 😂 I've read 46 books and still haven't found my way out!!! 2y
claudiuo @TheAromaofBooks I was stuck at F5 for a while, kept reading books without a place name, color, number or person name in the title but this one did it and sent me straight to K5 😃 2y

I read this with a seventh grade class of reluctant readers. They were utterly engaged, accusatory (they just knew with their deepest beings it was going to end horribly - these accusations starting halfway through), and invested! It was a fast read and fun.

When Hollis, who is in and out of foster homes, is sent to Josie, an elderly artist, she wants to stay. But Josie is forgetful. If Social Services finds out, they‘ll take Hollis away. Well, Hollis Woods won‘t let anyone separate them. All Hollis ever wanted was a family and she's willing to do whatever it takes.
Great quick student suggestion. Awesome to see it in so many curriculums.

What a good read. I read this when I was a kid and was happy to see it was in the curriculum for the current term for my students. This is my first time ever teaching reading/books with students and it was... really not easy. But I‘m glad I got to re-read this YA novel. A great tale of finding love for a foster child 💕 good for late elementary/middle schoolers

sarahlandis Also the climax of this book takes place in a snow storm and I finished it up during pretty decent snow fall 💕❄️ 4y

Pictures of Hollis Woods is a Newberry award winning RF novel by Patricia Reilly Giff. This story of about a young girl named Hollis Woods who was abandoned as an infant and has spent her life going (or running away from) foster home to foster home. Now living with a retired teacher who is losing her memory, Hollis must figure out how to get back to the only family she‘s ever truly felt a part of before the system finds out about Josies dwindling

KarinaGuillen memory. This is a wonderful shared reading book because the story is told in the form of present tense and flashbacks. In the story, Hollis is a phenomenal artist, in the attachment students are able to express their comprehension through pictures and drawings. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/sort-it-out-se... DrSpalding Again so happy you selected this book. What a powerful story. Sidenote one of my best friends from the age of four to date, her name is Hollis. It is an unusual name and caused me to pick up this book to read. It was a wonderful choice. There is a Hallmark Channel movie of this book that is fantastic! 7y

This is another book that I've read before, and it's part of the reason the foster care system and adoption is something I'm so passionate about.
This book is so beautifully written and switches between flashback and present day to paint a beautiful story with an even more beautiful ending!

Drawing is what you see of the world, truly see...And sometimes what you see is so deep in your head you're not even sure of what you're seeing. But when it's down there on paper, and you look at it, really look, you'll see the way things are...

Readingrobin Beautiful story! 8y

????4/5 stars ?
It was a quick read. I read most of it on a plane ride. It's about a foster kid that runs away from all the homes her social worker, whom she calls "The Mustard Lady", puts her in. The theme is mostly about finding a forever family and its really sweet to watch Hollis grow throughout the book.

(Photo above is from the Hallmark Channel movie based on the book which I am of course going to to watch asap!)

missjenniferlowe I didn't know there was a movie! 8y
