I jumped in without reading the blurb, and it's very easy to follow. The book follows 3 characters, a Kisian princess, a Chiltean whore/assassin and Levanti exiled Captain. What stand out the most from this book is the politics, I trully can't guess where the wind would blow, and each twists are so good and well thought. The magical aspect is not explained but shrouded like a mystery and it intrigues me more.

My favorite character is Princess Miko, a child of a traitor, raised as a potential heir to the throne.

I watched her character grow into something magnificent, and I love her resolve! She's strong, she's smart, she's everything you need in a heroine 💚💚

Cassandra is a whore turned assassin. She can feel the dead, and she has a Voice in her head. She lives to get rid of the Voice. She took a job to kill a Lord and his manservant for a visit to Witchdoctor. She was caught between the two warring parties.

This is my least favorite character in the book, but some of his decisions made me respect his character. Rah is very principled, straight like an arrow kinda guy. He was a Captain leading an exiled tribe, when they're captured and bullied to fight against Kisian, they kill or be killed basically. Rah was torn between following his heart and the tribe's tradition and giving all up for new life as 'slaves' in foreign war.

I really enjoyed the politics and action in this book. I loved Miko and Cassandra a lot. I was not a fan of reading Rah‘s chapters. This book is marketed to be a fantasy book, but there is no magic, just empires. That‘s okay though. I do wish we would know more about Dom and Cassandra and why they are the way they are. Hopefully book two clears things up.

Book mail waiting for me when I got home today! This has been getting a good amount of hype lately. I think it was originally a self pub but Orbit picked it up, slapped a new cover on it, and gave it some marketing.

I'm excited to dig in. Probably won't be for a few weeks yet - but it's here and waiting for me now. 🤗
