What happens when the haggling is done and the shops are closed? When the quest has been given, the steeds saddled, and the adventurers are off to their next encounter? They keep the world running, the food cooked, and the horses shoed, yet what adventurer has ever spared a thought or concern for the Non-Player Characters? In the town of Maplebark, four such NPCs settle in for a night of actively ignoring the adventurers drinking in the tavern when things go quickly and fatally awry. Once the dust settles, these four find themselves faced with an impossible choice: pretend to be adventurers undertaking a task of near-certain death or see their town and loved ones destroyed. Armed only with salvaged equipment, second-hand knowledge, and a secret that could get them killed, it will take all manner of miracles if they hope to pull off their charade. And even if they succeed, the deadliest part of their journey may well be what awaits them at its end.

I really can‘t say much about this book except that it‘s basic. There was nothing that stood out about this book at all. The characters can be found in any D&D roleplaying game and the story could be found in a real D&D module storyline. There was nothing new or exciting that existed, no new spin on an otherwise great classic. This just was your classic entry level fantasy or RPG book.

I enjoyed this book so much! It was a lot of fun seeing Non Player Characters react to the actions of "Real World" players in a Dungeons and Dragons type game. The humor and nerdery were also well appreciated. I'm definitely going to have to check out #2.

This was a fun book. I enjoyed it very much. I will be reading the rest of the books sometime next year. 5/5 ⭐s

Since I started reading this I‘ve been comparing the story to #dnd since I used to play it before Covid hit. I‘m astonished that I forgot about the actual players in the book that I had an ‘oh sh!t‘ moment. Also, who goes off on their own adventure when they could have gone to a tournament?! #ebook #kindleunlimited

I needed something different than reading the romance genre, so I decided to #read NPCs,and I got to say this has become my favorite book I‘ve read this year. My favorite character has to be the half-orc barkeep Grumph. #ebooks #kindleunlimited

BookmarkTavern I love this whole series so much! Hayes is working on the fifth one right now! 😁 3y

Well this book lasted me all of a long time 😂

I could rave about this book for hours, but I'll keep it as simple as I can 😁

I loved this!!! It was perfect in so many ways, and so far in my wheelhouse it was unreal. I fully plan on forcing everyone in my weekly D&D session to read this, because it will give such an extra layer of amazing to our games!

#TBRChallenge #AudioBook #ABookThats

TCLinrow Also, just have to briefly mention that the world and the characters were so beautifully written 🤯🤩 and the narration by Roger Wayne on audio 🤯🤩 4y

Just started a new book I've had downloaded as an #AudioBook for a while now that I've finished Across the Nightingale Floor.

I presumed initially that it would be about NPCs from a video game, which would have been cool but it turns out it's about a table top game like Dungeons and Dragons... which I play with a few friends on a Saturday most weeks! Can't wait to see what chaos unfolds, if our game is anything to go by! 😅😂🖤

BookmarkTavern This whole series is absolutely delightful! I‘m glad you‘re enjoying it! 4y

I was really drawn to the concept of this book but the execution was a bit of a miss for me. I enjoyed following the party of NPCs but I wasn‘t that fond of the players and PCs. I think my brain also broke at the boss battle. But I did like the audiobook! All in all a semi-enjoyable adventure but I don‘t think I‘ll be picking up the sequels.

🎧 You might be interested in this book if you‘re interested in Dungeons & Dragons. The book‘s about a group of NPCs that ignore the adventurers & then become adventurers themselves. It‘s like listening to a game. You get a feel for the game in general as you hear terms & descriptions used in these games. I have friends that play DND & due to C19 I don‘t get to hear about their adventures like I used to so this was heartwarming for me! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

BookmarkTavern I love this book so much! The whole series is fantastic. ❤️❤️ 5y
Twainy @ozma.of.oz (like your name) I can‘t wait to finish my library books currently in rotation so I can get book 2!! This is a book I‘d probably listen to more than twice. 5y
BookmarkTavern Thanks! I‘ve listened to the whole series a couple times. That narrator is just so good! 😁 5y
Twainy @ozma.of.oz I couldn‘t agree more!! I think if you didn‘t play these games by the end of the book you‘d be thinking about it 😁 engaging, educational, interesting, funny. And now the world believes I‘m a nerd. 😆 I have a feeling that I‘m about to double my library queue ... 5y

First #bookcast2019 post!

Do you like the fantasy shenanigans of TAZ Balance? What about the nods to the 4th wall and the intertwining of the real world and the fantasy? Silliness and fun, yet paired with emotional depth of characters?

Do I have the book for you! Well, series, really.

"Swords, Sorcery, and Stealth" by Drew Hayes, currently at four books, checks all these boxes and has a fantastic narrator to boot!

I've so been missing my D&D group from back in Ontario, and this book was perfect for filling the void. Most of the story features the adventures of a band of NPCs (non play characters) but there is some fun interweaving of scenes with a group of table top players. It's basically like listening to a campaign. Love 😍 I immediately bought the second audiobook. Highly recommended for those who love rpgs 😃 #mommyreads #audiobook #givemeaquest

This was an incredibly fun, laugh out loud, book! It managed to poke fun at tabletop RPGs, while still showing respect and affection for the games. A couple fun twists, that I was only able to predict half of, and a fun narrator to boot.

As soon as I finished this on Libby, I immediately got on Audible and bought the whole series. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗 #overdrive

This was a really fun audiobook! If you're into lighthearted fantasy (with monster killing, of course!), I'd recommend this! The narrator was great too!

Did anyone else pick up this audiobook when it was on sale through Audible? It's pretty fun, making fun of gamers and exploring what the Non-Player Characters might get up to when the gamers go home. @TobeyTheScavengerMonk might you like this? It's definitely on the light side.
