Most of this is common sense really - let kids express their emotions, have boundaries where needed but explain, let them have imaginative play...

The science & info about the brain was interesting (there is a gene that determines temperament for example) but the main takeaway is that research that has been done into children‘s brain development is not wholly conclusive, and you really just need to model, encourage, get on their level ... ⭐️⭐️⭐️

youneverarrived Going to use this for something about nature (nature vs nurture) #nonfiction2021 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa 4y
vivastory I hope your kiddo is doing well!! 4y

Refreshing to read a more contemporary book that provides more extensive evidence for the parenting practices recommended. Some of the attempts at humor and relatability fall flat, but the core lessons about how our brains develop and parenting with empathy make it worth the occasional eye-roll.

I know this book looks like a typical "how-to" parenting book, but it was really a great insight into the psychology of small children and shaped my philosophy of being a mom. He doesn't give you hard do's and don'ts, but rather shines a light on relationships, familial growth and child development.

Jamiedemo Lol. No. Hopefully next year. We are working towards numerous goals. I'm always interested in good books though. 9y
