In autumn, daylight begins to decrease, the weather grows colder, and the harvest begins to wither. Just as Americans today celebrate Thanksgiving, peoples of many cultures brighten this season of increasing darkness with festivals to give thanks for the harvest bounty that will sustain them through the long winter to come. THE AUTUMN EQUINOX offers some fascinating descriptions of how peoples of the past celebrated the harvest season.
