The 5th Gender
The 5th Gender: A Tinkered Stars Mystery | G. L. Carriger
13 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
A species that has no word for murder, has a murderer aboard their spaceship. ALIEN Tristol lives in exile. But he's built a life for himself aboard a human space station. He's even started to understand the complex nuances of human courting rituals. Detective Hastion is finally flirting back! MURDER Except that Tristol's beloved space station is unexpectedly contacted by the galoi - a xenophobic species with five genders, purple skin, and serious attitude. They need the help of a human detective because there's a murderer aboard their spaceship. Murder is so rare, the galoi don't even have a word for it. Tristol knows this because he is galoi. ROMANCE Which means that he and Detective Hastion are on the case together. Delicate Sensibilities? Contains men who love other men in graphic detail, regardless of gender, biology, or skin color... and lots of emotively sexy tentacle hair. New York Times best selling author Gail Carriger (writing as G.L. Carriger) brings you a light-hearted romantic cozy mystery featuring an adorable lavender alien and his human crush.

Crinoline_Laphroaig Print/Kindle short extra stories from series I love: Vampire Academy, Shadowhunters and Jane Austen Mysteries. Of the 2 Anthologies - I only read one story in each. Sunshine was Vampire Academy Snippet in Kisses From Hell.🧛 Jane and the Spoils of Stoneleigh by Stephanie Barron was in Malice Domestic. Definitely worth tracking down for another Jane Austen Mystery.🕵️‍♀️ ⬇️

ScientistSam I didn't know there were Vampire Academy untold stories! 3y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @ScientistSam I actually read them in 10th Anniversary Edition of Vampire Academy. There is one about Lissa's parents meeting in 3y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @ScientistSam I found them thanks to Manda from Fictional Hangover Podcast. 3y

Lovely purple to lavender iris from my garden. The 5th Gender isn't a Cozy Murder Mystery (because sex is on the page) but my candle matches so well. Smells wonderfully of Apple Whiskey and Wool Blanket. I think Tristol the lavender not purple alien would approve of the overall aesthetic. ⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig I've been saving my reread for this week when my inbox is packed with Mother's Day Sales. It's wonderful to read a story with characters who like myself choose not to have children. It's one of the reasons I adore Gail Carriger books. ⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig That plus themes of Found Family and the fact that her Parasol Protectorate Series includes bad mothers who don't suddenly redeem themselves. Which is something that those of us whose mothers didn't do their best really need to see; Characters that survive but more importantly they thrive. 💜💜💜💜💜 3y

I'm fond of all shades of purple in my garden but especially this lavender iris. This Gail Carriger writing as G.L. Carriger is a go to Happy Read. I have it in Print, Kindle, & Audio, depending on the reading circumstances. At 6 h 27m audio is perfect for a day in the garden.

Crinoline_Laphroaig Just hearing 1st Chapter while I snapped pictures and once again I am immediately charmed by Tristol. A lavender alien with emotive hair and his cat sitting adventures with Mister Montiguous. "The cat would occasionally sit atop him in some kind of primitive dominance display, as if Tristol were mere furniture designed specifically for one dictatorial carnivore. Tris accepted this status gravely." 4y

1️⃣ I'll finish the annotated original Dorian Gray this weekend.
2️⃣ I read so much slash! As for published book, tagged.
3️⃣ Not fun for me, but my son is making us go see a baseball game tomorrow. He got a free ticket for father's day, so we're going as a group.

For all my Gail Carriger lovers, she released this book yesterday. Has anyone read it already? It has aliens, murder, and romance. I fell in love with Carriger when I read her Soulless series! I‘m looking forward to reading her latest book! 📚

theresidentromantic I'm doing an audio reread of The Parasol Protectorate rn! So I can get to all the little novellas. Like Biffys 😍 I'll probably read this when that's over! I'm excited to see what she did that's so different she changed up her penname 5y

Readergrrl That libation looks lovely!!! Care to share the ingredients? 5y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Readergrrl 2 oz Gin, 1 oz Parfait Amour, Splash of St Germain. We are calling it the Lavender not Purple Martini because of this:Tris blinked at him. “I am lavender!” Drey tried to hide a smile, “Lavender is a type of purple.” “I know that. I memorized all the shades. But lavender is more accurate and it is a superior word.”

Very quick read. Cute and fun, with convincing but conveniently crafted aliens. The author thought of the aliens first and wrote a simple mystery to fit the sexy romance they imagined. It's all good. And also good M/M sex. I don't remember who posted about it yesterday but #blameitonlitsy

When it's release day on a new @GailCarriger book and the first thing you do even before preparing tea is to download the book and start reading... And there is an cute alien, a cat and all the food... You know your day will disappear in a book :)
