I‘ve been exhausted for the last couple days and that‘s made it tough to concentrate, but I‘m gonna try to sink into one of my new Mary Stewarts tonight. Daisy will, of course, assist in between naps and outdoor snuggles.

Charity & her friend Louise are vacationing in Provence when things get a little more exciting than anticipated. Love, lust, murder & mayhem, mystery, ruins, romance & fantastic scenery—I read this way back in the day & it was just as much fun this time as it was the first. I will admit to a real fondness for romantic suspense from authors such as Stewart, Victoria Holt & Barbara Michaels. Old school escapist fun. Maybe Wildfire at Midnight next!

Bklover Oh yeah- all of those and Phyllis Whitney too! V Holt was my mom‘s favorite. 3y
TracyReadsBooks @Bklover Ohhh, you‘re right! I forgot Phyllis Whitney. They‘re all such fun! 3y

Love this cover bringing the drama.

shanaqui Huh, it doesn't suit the book, to my mind! Seems more desolate than most of Charity's adventures... 3y
TracyReadsBooks @shanaqui You‘re probably right—I read this so long ago I don‘t remember anything about it. I was just looking at my bookshelves and the title caught my eye. Probably means it‘s time for a reread! 3y
shanaqui @TracyReadsBooks I couldn't quite say why but it's one of my favourites! 3y

I finished a book for the first time in almost two weeks! Hoping my slump is ending... will probably still do another reread of a previously enjoyed book next rather than trying something new yet. Maybe in a few days I'll be ready to branch back out.

I'm rereading this book from one of my comfort authors (love me some Mary Stewart) to get my mojo back. Seems to be working: her style is very descriptive and I'm enjoying my virtual journey to the south of France.

mcipher I always feel like I‘m right there with her books. She‘s amazing at creating a sense of place!! 6y
bookandbedandtea @mcipher Absolutely! It's been years since I've read anything of hers but when I look at her books I clearly remember the locations in her stories. 6y

I don't know why I like this one quite so much, because the dictatorial and initially terrifying love interest is a big turn off. Instalove is pretty par for the course anyway, so that aspect doesn't bother me much. I really enjoy Charity and her attitude to her deceased husband, though -- how she accepts the love and sadness, but is ready and willing to move on when the moment comes.

Snuggled with this dude a lot today. 💙 #BunniesofLitsy

ladym30 So sweet! 7y
