I bought this book just for the cover a while back, and chapter 1 contains the word "exsanguination." So far so good. ??
Just noticed the spine design
Reading on a plane and enjoying this so far. I stopped in to East City Books while in DC. I am trying not to buy more books till I read down some more of the 231 I already have purchased unread at home. But I also like to support independent booksellers when I travel. This jumped out at me as weird enough to be good and was given a thumbs up by staff. Great new little store.

so-soThis is a good and absurd book, but it is not a great book because it goes off the rails. The Insides is a magical realm, which will only play out in the end. Ollie is a meat carver who envies the knife her co-worker uses. The knife is magic. A hit man who wears a pig mask and a magic seeker also want the knife. What is this knife? This is a good read, but ultimately pretty silly. The big reveal is different. A good plane/afternoon read. B-/C+
So far a fun, quirky, and strange book. Magic is real. A magical knife used to carve pigs is desired by a fellow worker to "win" a carving contest and a hit man and psychic also want it for their boss.
pickA qualified pick: For those who like their outre reading dark and strange; and have a tolerance for a little non-comic ridiculousness; this is a story about "owning" the choices you make and their consequences.
Half-Way Status Update: This has the same dark, strange vibe as *After Hours* when Griffin Dunne's character opens the medicine cabinet and sees the burn meds; and Kiki's in the other room...
I'm a bit bemused as to why R.C. Bray would be narrating this book, which so far is from the female POV (albeit 3rd person,) so I've decided to read it in print. Just started so all I know so far is that magic is involved, the protag as an 18-yo wished for a family; and now she's a butcher...
"Sometimes people are grumpy for reasons that have nothing to do with you"
This is something I could really do to remember.
