Hashimoto S Thyroiditis: Lifestyle Interventions for Finding and Treating the Root Cause, 2nd Edition
Hashimoto S Thyroiditis: Lifestyle Interventions for Finding and Treating the Root Cause, 2nd Edition | Izabella Wentz
3 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
What s really going on in Hashimoto s? This New York Times Bestseller is the result of three years of research and two years of testing byDr. Izabella Wentz, a clinical pharmacist who wasdiagnosedwith Hashimoto s in 2009. She combined emerging research with clinical expertise to identify and remove the triggers that caused her to develop Hashimoto s. You may have heard that thyroid medications are the only treatment option for people with Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism, and that there is no way to halt or reverse the autoimmune process once it starts. Hashimoto s Thyroiditis: The Root Cause dispels that myth and shows how targeted lifestyle interventions allow the body to rebalance and halt the autoimmune process allowing the thyroid to recover. Hashimoto's is more than just hypothyroidism. Most patients with Hashimoto's will present with acid reflux, nutrient deficiencies, anemia, intestinal permeability, food sensitivities, gum disorders and hypoglycemia in addition to the typical hypothyroid symptoms such as weight gain, cold intolerance, hair loss, fatigue and constipation. The body becomes stuck in a vicious cycle of immune system overload, adrenal insufficiency, gut dysbiosis, impaired digestion, inflammation, and thyroid hormone release abnormalities. This cycle is self-sustaining and will continue causing more and more symptoms until an external factor intervenes and breaks the cycle apart. The lifestyle interventions discussed in this book aim to dismantle the vicious cycle piece by piece. We start with the simplest modifications, by removing triggers, and follow with repairing the other broken systems to restore equilibrium, allowing the body to rebuild itself. In this updated printing of a book that has sold more than 80,000 copies since 2013, Dr. Wentz shares her DIG-AT-IT approach, a systematic method that helps to identify triggers, as well as a healing protocol that tackles the triggers."

Definitely not the *most* fun reading I could be doing, but here we are. I was diagnosed earlier this week with Hashimoto's disease and I found out yesterday that I also have Lupus. I'm not going to lie, I cried a little. I've been sick for years but never really taken seriously, so having answers is scary but good.
Anyway, I'm looking for all the resources because knowing the ins and outs comforts me. Any reading recs from reputable people?

Suet624 Oh gosh. I understand completely your need to find out all you can. At least you finally know what you‘re dealing with. 1mo

Cailey_Mac This is a good first step! I also have Hashimotos, and recommend doing slow changes to help incorporate them easier and make them an easier habit. Learning as much as you can definitely helps. Each person is different and certain foods may trigger you vs someone else, so be mindful after eating to see how you ultimately feel. This helped me feel more confident in my own journey, and just know you‘re not alone!💕 (edited) 1mo
CatLass007 Rachel, it‘s good to know that you‘re finally being taken seriously. Having a doctor who knows what‘s going on with your health and educating yourself as much as possible is important. Litsy is a supportive and caring community. It‘s good that you know that sharing here is safe. And it‘s good that you have such an attentive nurse in your pup. 1mo

TheLudicReader Sorry to hear the diagnosis, but I think knowing at least answers some questions and helps you plan for the future. Sending positive energy your way. 1mo

Well, Litsy, if you've been wondering why I've been posting so infrequently, this should answer it. I've had Hashimoto's and migraines for several years now, but those are only two bottles. The rest are for the tonsillitis, ear infection, and the probable diagnosis of asthma. Probable only b/c we're using the inhalers to get me to a pseudo-normal level of lung function before doing more tests. I am slowly improving. I miss Litsy. And reading.

Reggie Hope you get better!!! 7y
LauraBrook I'm a fellow thyroid and migraine gal too! It takes a lot of detailed adjusting of meds, sometimes several times a year. I've had a lot more success with natural/real medications (specifically Nature Throid and Armour Thyroid) vs synthetics (they only "fixed" blood work numbers and didn't help with symptoms or anything), so it takes awhile. Been hypothyroid for 20 years. If you want to talk I can send you my email. Hang in there, friend! ? 7y
Crystallinegirl @LauraBrook I've mentioned the natural meds to my doctor and he flat out refuses to prescribe them. I'm rather pissed, since this week got started with me emailing him about issues and him saying "won't prescribe it, take an antihistamine for the cough" which landed me in urgent care for the cough. 7y

Crystallinegirl @LauraBrook saw a different gp yesterday, though, and she seems far more willing to write me a referral once basic tests are done, so I might finally see a real endocrinologist, too. 7y
LauraBrook @Crystallinegirl Ugh, I had problems with doctors and natural meds at first too. But after consistently gaining weight and feeling increasingly worse, they were out of options. I currently see a nurse practitioner who also does wholistic and naturopathic as a combo, and she's helped me a lot. Doesn't take insurance, but I'd rather pay for an hour of actual care vs wondering about insurance paying for someone. 👇🏽 7y
moranadatter It‘s good to see you here again. I‘m sorry you are going through all of that and glad you are improving. 💙 7y
LauraBrook I still have my old doctor, and she knows and agrees with everything my natural one does. It took a while, but I found a system that works and actually helps me. Don't give up hope! It can be incredibly frustrating (rage-inducing too), but keep up with what you think and know is right for you. My email is Laura Lenz Massage @ gmail if you need support. Sometimes you feel like you're losing your mind - it's not true! 7y
Cortg Oh no! Wishing you good vibes that they are able to get you on the mend and soon! 7y

"And I don't understand why I sleep all day and I start to complain that there's no rain - and all I can do is read a book to stay awake and it rips my life away but it's a great escape."

My #norain #90sinjuly contribution is a book about the health condition I struggle with. Cos those lines describe me pretty well. Hashimoto's sucks.
