The Truth About Twinkie Pie
The Truth About Twinkie Pie | Kat Yeh
10 posts | 5 read | 11 to read
Take two sisters making it on their own: brainy twelve-year-old GiGi (short for Galileo Galilei, a name she never says out loud) and junior-high-dropout-turned-hairstylist DiDi (short for Delta Dawn). Add a million dollars in prize money from a national cooking contest and a move from the trailer parks of South Carolina to the Gold Coast of New York. Mix in a fancy new school, new friends and enemies, a first crush, and a generous sprinkling of family secrets. That's the recipe for The Truth About Twinkie Pie, a voice-driven middle grade debut about the true meaning of family and friendship.

Great story! It includes recipes as well. I purchased this book 2+ years ago at scholastic book fair; finally read it!

#readingresolutions

A #bookstack from my recent library haul. No #audiobooks in my pile as I rarely listen to them. Wish I could but I get too distracted.

When your baby girl lays a book in your lap and tells you that you just have to read it because she loved it so much, and really wants to share it with someone.

What's a mom to do, but put her own reading aside for the night and read this one?

I promised my sixth grade book club I'd make Twinkie Pie for them, and I always keep my promises when they have to do with desserts! 😋

I enjoyed the characters, who were realistic and understand able. Gigi may have been a bit melodramatic but twelve year olds can be.

Enjoyed reading this through my writer's perspective. Just like a Twinkie pie, lots of layers to the characters and the storyline, voice of MC so lively and real.
