There‘s a bunch of books I could have picked for this that I loved (The English Patient, the Elegance of the Hedgehog, the Emperor Waltz, etc) but I wanted to highlight this short story collection I got during the Brooklyn Book Festival a few years ago.

Dark, quirky and interesting! This short story collection was great. I‘d recommend if you‘re looking for something a little different.

I don‘t normally read short story collections but I really enjoyed these! Just short snippets of someone‘s life, a snap shot of a situation but brilliantly written and very engaging!

If you enjoy a quirky, offbeat story, from the dark side of your imagination, about every day people.....this is the book of short stories for you. It's one of the best I've read in a long time
I absolutely am in love with it.
Thank you Jacob M. Appel for sending this.

Tiny Book Tuesday! Another great book of short stories. My favorite was about a depressed hedgehog. Recommended! I give it 4 stars

The stories were interesting but some felt like they ended too soon. Others were ok.

Entertaining short stories with a touch of heartbreak. My favorites were the title story and Paracosmos. I won this in a Goodreads giveaway.

The author actually sent me a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it! Definitely quirky, interesting, and, at times, dark. Appel definitely had a knack for short stories. And his books are constantly featured in Goodreads Giveaways, so get on it! 4.5/5 stars

Picked this up at the Brooklyn Book Fest not expecting much, and was really pleasantly surprised. A set of slightly dark, quirky short stories which were all really good! I'll be thinking about this for some time and definitely picking up anything else by Jacob M Appel.

Also currently in very sunny England! Lovely day for reading in my partner's parents garden. 😃

These are some of the most bizarre stories I‘ve ever read, and as someone who is drawn to the strange, dark, and melancholy aspects of humanity, I fully intend that as a compliment.

It‘s like stepping inside a Todd Solondz movie—a version of the real world in which the strangeness and vulnerability that accompany being human are amplified.

I recommend this one to my fellow weirdos.
