Having a proper book-hangover having finished this story and want to continue with the story and know what happens next ... a beautiful story
Loved it! Audible is read by the author and I think I enjoyed it all the more because of it! Definitely recommend
Beautiful! And excited to find out there‘s a second 🙂
Loved listening to this! Would love to compare it to the book and see how much he has ad-libbed in the audio! Very funny guy with a huge dollop of determination ... this book was recommended to me after I had enjoyed Becoming, wasn‘t sure it would be comparable but it certainly is for inspirational listening!
Interesting book, gives a nice background to Ikigai but I was hoping for a bit more on how to apply it to life
It was a little slow to start with but once the ground had been set I was completely immersed and loved it! A journey of spiritual awakening / self-discovery mixed in with conspiracy theory and bad guys hunting the good guys ... really grew to love the characters and would like to continue reading, I‘m hoping there will be another book soon! 😀
I really enjoyed this collection of short stories, snippets of people‘s lives, although some of them I wanted to be longer so I could find out what happened next. Easy to pick up and put down at the end of each story. The only problem with the ebook I received was the italics, whenever there was italic writing, there was no spacing so it was hard to read. I‘m happy to have received this book for an early review, it‘s one I shall read again 🙂
I‘m actually starting to get hooked on these books, I hadn‘t realised there was a #0 so read 1-5 first & returned to this one. Super easy to read, a lot of repetition of background info but I guess that just means you can pick up at any book in the series. If you don‘t want to have to concentrate & just want to wander into a delightful little world then you‘ll enjoy these!
Very different to the first book, loved this series and how the sisters develop as characters
Quite enjoyed this book, kinda interesting setting and perspectives although I do think more could‘ve been done / developed. An easy read with likeable characters
Enjoyed this book for a book club, possibly wouldn‘t have found it otherwise. Made me realise just how sheltered my life has been, the parts of life & society I‘ve not considered. I always love a book with different elements that flow and weave around each other ... beautifully written and thoroughly enjoyable 🙂
Read this as part of my 2020 reading challenge, a local author, probably wouldn‘t have picked it up otherwise so I‘m happy to have spread my reading wings. I enjoy the read but found myself reading other books at the same time (unusual for me) and not reading so much before bed. Interesting to read about a different culture within my own, loved the ending, was rooting for that kind of outcome the whole way through 😊
Loved this collection of short stories, great to get a little sample of so many authors ... have a few names I want to read more of now 🙂
I‘ve just finished this for the second time, I‘m just as upset this time that is ended as I was the first time ... absolutely beautiful! A world so encapsulating and absorbing ... the description of the circus had me right there, experiencing it as the rêveurs did. I think I‘ll be revisiting this book again in a few years time
I very rarely reread books but this has come up for a book club and I am so excited to be entering its pages again 😆
Read this for a book club read but it‘s one I would‘ve chosen anyway. A clever fiction around the Pendle witch trials following a woman‘s fight for her midwife in a male dominated world, stupid and pig-ignorant males at that! Couldn‘t put it down so now need to catch up on 3 days of my life! 😀
Took me a while to get into this one, some complex subjects being talked about that I needed to read a few times to get my head around but some profound statements & ideas that get you thinking & contemplating. I hadn‘t realised how much I was getting attached to the characters, this began with the introduction of Ozu & the story feels like it‘s starting to move, had to pause when it stated Renee had died, wasn‘t expecting that & was devastated!
Has about one else found the current situation has infiltrated their brains? ... I‘m currently reading books thinking ‘that‘s not social distancing!‘ ‘They can‘t do that‘ ‘is that an essential journey?!?‘ ‘What do they think they are doing?!?‘ ... it‘s really starting to annoy me having to remind myself it‘s fiction and covid doesn‘t affect their world 😳🙄
“We have to live with the certainty that we‘ll get old and that won‘t look nice or be good or feel happy. And tell ourselves that it‘s now that matters: to build something, now, at any price, using all our strength. Always remember that there‘s a retirement home waiting somewhere and so we have to surpass ourselves ever day, make every day undying. Climb our own personal Everest and do it in such a way that every step is a little bit of eternity.”
Not my usual style of book but I‘m very glad I read it! A collection of short essays written by men on death row ... a variety of topics from snippets of life growing up, how they adjusted to life inside and life on death row. A very interesting read that challenges the ‘monster‘ stereotype
Loved how this book is written, flicking between different narratives to hear the different perspectives of a complicated tale ... had a real hatred for certain characters which I rarely experience!
Although I wanted to finish this book it felt inconsistent, a relationship seemed to take a step back without the reader realising, or the writer had completely forgot the last time they were together. It felt like a long read when it should‘ve been something to fly through, after reading for days I was still only on 34% but then once I‘d gotten to 60% it picked up speed. Nice touch to have the recipes running through it tho
I loved this different take on books ... the concept that people are bound to a book and they forget the memory that is ‘bound‘ in the book ... the down side is that books are considered bad as it‘s reading someone‘s personal and painful memory
Thought this passage was quite apt right now ... let‘s all have a cup of tea ☕️🙂 (couldn‘t figure out how to highlight so had to brush out instead)
As ever, a Milly Johnson book that is so easy to read, a warm blanket to snuggle in after a mind scrambling week!
This completely surprised me! First time I‘ve properly read (listened) to this story and it was not what I expected ... I‘ve grown up believing it to be about Frankenstein making the monster, but that‘s just one tiny section of it! I had no idea! I enjoyed the story, lots of monologues
I‘m really enjoying this series, I‘m finding I‘m picking them up after a busy week and can‘t concentrate on anything heavy. A perfect escape!
A great read that kept me guessing, some aspects I had suspicions about but there were surprises. I thought this book drew together historical info with fiction beautifully ... I always like 2 different timelines running parallel then begin to twist and snake together 🙂
Really struggled with this, listening on audible and couldn‘t keep track of what was going on, have been advised due to the complicated story it‘s best to read in paper-form so will do that another time ... story sounds intriguing
Enjoyed this on audible, an easy listen but lots of twists to keep you guessing 🙂
Read this for a book club and had no real expectations or much of an idea about it really. I loved it, following the life of Kya from a young age through its twists & turns and how she survives and learns to thrive ... an unexpected pleasurable read 😊
I feel like I need time to process this and maybe read it a few more times ... definitely along the philosophical line
I‘m heart broken that I‘ve finished this book! And still weeping ... a beautiful story ❤️
Well that didn‘t take long to read ... 26 hours including sleep! Hooked from the very beginning, even read it while walking home from town! Definitely worth the hype I‘ve seen about it and looking forward to reading more from Lisa Jewell!
Loved this book!!! I love fairy tales any way but this gave so much more to the classic tale, fleshing out the characters and giving the whole story much more substance ... would whole heartedly recommend this book if you need a snuggle within the pages ❤️☕️📚
Read this for a book club and it is totally out of my comfort zone, I‘m glad I read it for that reason but it really isn‘t my kind of book! I felt horrible reading it, not because of the writing or anything just because of the subject matter ... this book has made me realise how much I read to escape and this book didn‘t let me escape! I work with women who experience trauma & I think it was too close to work for me
Quite enjoyed this in the end, took me a while but made me smile at many points towards the end 🙂
I stole this from another online book group but have now lost the original post ... anyone any ideas? I‘ve only got numbers 12, maybe 14, 21 & 23 🙄
Hello Littens! I need some recommendations for my next audible ... I need something entertaining my really easy to listen to, I‘ve just finished Gulliver‘s travels which I found really hard to focus on, plus work is pretty full-on at the moment so my head feels like it‘s full of cotton wool ... thank you kindly!
There were so many times I found my mind wandering during g this book, it was unable to maintain my focus. Hugely imaginative but far too detailed with social / political commentary for my liking
Perhaps I should‘ve read the blurb for this book before beginning ... but then maybe I shouldn‘t have as I might not have selected it. I found this interesting, Jo‘s views on society which make a lot of sense and get you thinking at points, interspersed with her own experiences and advice reflecting this ... only really rated ‘so-so‘ as I found my mind wandering more and I had to go over more parts again than I normally do
Happy New Year to all you gorgeous book-lovers! May your 2020 be filled with cosy & comfy places to read, delicious snacks and of course, plenty of amazing books! May your TBR list never end! xxx 🎉🍾🥂📚
Listened on audible with Miranda narrating, don‘t think it would‘ve worked with anyone else narrating it ... loved every second of it ... Such Fun!
Such an amazing book to read, entertaining despite it being about a very harsh reality. Trevor‘s mother is my hero ... what a woman!
Thank you so much @Mitch for my #jolabokaflodSwap , going to enjoy snuggling up with the book & chocolates 😀😀
I‘m so glad I listened to this as an audio book rather than reading it, it was a marathon and I‘m not sure I would‘ve finished it if I was reading but absolutely loved the story! Couldn‘t predict where it was going and characters developed so I loved everyone one of them
