This is a book about a young boy who loves everything to be very proper until he opens up a paint box given to him by his aunt. He starts painting what he hears and soon finds that no one else hears colors the way he does.

The Noisy Paint Box by Barb Rosenstock was such an adorable read. It is about an aunt who gives Vasily who is Moscow a paint box. No one knows what to make of the wild shapes he creates. Vasily doesn‘t just see the colors, he hears them. He then decides to study art and his teachers steer him toward traditional subjects. He resists, and his works become the art world‘s first abstract paintings. He was told he was crazy but he didn't listen Amazing

The Noisy Paint box is a Caldecott award winning HF book, written by Barb Rosenstock and Illustrated by Mary Grandpre, this book will be a great AS. The book is based of a man named Vasily Kandinsky who was born in Moscow, Russia into a very strict family. He had to do what his parents expected of him, he was discouraged to think outside the box and he learns to find his voice. The theme of this story is to never let anyone negative opinions

SierraC Effect your life. A great activity to go along with this book is “The Art of Doodle: Writing with imagination” on readwritethink.org/professional-development/strategy-guides/doodle-writing-with-imagination-31186.html. Students are encouraged to use their imagination and write a prompt about what they created. The EL strategy I would use is (29), the student will be encouraged to work independently however still have work to reference. (edited) 6y
SierraC The UDL strategies that go with the book are 1.1 and 1.2, we want students to feel encouraged and promote individuality. 6y
DrSpalding What a wonderful resource. Children especially the ages you have selected to teach, usually enjoy doodling and creating artwork. Try this in your own classroom. 6y

The Noisy Paint Box, a nonfiction(NF) picture book, won the Caldecott Medal for its incredible illustrations. It is a fantastic book for children to read and learn about individuality, passion, and hard work. The book tells the story of a Russian artist, Vasya Kandinsky, and his journey through schooling and life. I would use this book as a shared reading(SR) followed by this fun lesson.

The UDL principle 4, provide options for physical action, is met as the students read the book and then do a fun art activity after. The art allows them to move around and express themselves with whatever they choose to create! The EL principle 13, use preview and review activities, is met as they read and understand the book, while also

This Caldecott Honor book is a HF and B picture book written by Barb Rosenstock and Illustrated by Mary Grandpré. A RA would be necessary because the vocabulary is complex. Vasya Kandinsky is one the of the first abstract artist who didn't start off as an artist. As I was reading the book about this little Russian boy who always did the right thing. He didn't follow his passion because it wasn't proper. I was intrigued and then after reading

Floribelg The authors note about who Kandinsky was made the book more interesting. Definitely recommend reading this book! http://www.wassilykandinsky.net Resource is a website about Kandinsky and supports UDL 3.1 supplying background information and ESOL 28 providing a biography about men from different countries. #UCFLAE3414F17 7y
DrSpalding EL 28 is perfect! Learning about artists is fun for students and you could talk to the art teacher to support your use of this book in the classroom. 7y

This book is a MUST read! It's a wonderfully vivid historical fiction picture book that takes you into the colorful world of Vasya Kandinsky. I read it to my blended K-2 elementary and they also enjoyed it. I came up with a fun activity for them as well so they could experience the book with all of there senses. #UCFLAE3414sp17 https://www.state.lib.la.us/files/LYRC/TheNoisyPaintbox_Guide_WEB.pdf

This is a fictionalized history of artist Vasily Kandinsky. When he heard music he saw paintings. He is now known as one of the first abstract artists. If you choose this book, go with the print edition and leave the digital edition alone.
