The Matchmakers of Minnow Bay
The Matchmakers of Minnow Bay: A Novel | Kelly Harms
7 posts | 8 read | 17 to read
A young painter, Lily has reached a crossroads in her life. Her career hasn't taken off, her best friend may no longer be the trusted friend she thought, her boyfriend is a disappointment, and now she can't keep up with the rising cost of living in the city. With no one to turn to, Lily is forced to move from her beloved apartment, but while packing she comes across a piece of mail that had slipped to the back of her junk drawer: a letter detailing further action needed to finalize the annulment of a quickie Vegas wedding. Ten years ago! Lily decides it's time to turn over a new leaf and the first item on her list of things to fix is getting the annulment... but you can't just send a reply ten years later, "Hey by the way we are still married." This is something that must be addressed in person. Lily takes to the road to track down her husband - the charming, fun, and sexy man she connected with all those years ago - Ben Hutchinson. Ben Hutchinson left a wealthy dot-com lifestyle behind to return home to his family and the small town he loves, Minnow Bay. He's been living off the grid and the last thing he expects is a wife he didn't know he had to show up on his doorstep. By chance, Lily arrives at the magical Minnow Bay Inn, and there she will discover not just a place to lay her head, but new friends, a thriving art community, and maybe even the love of her life.

Maybe I wasn‘t in the right mindset to read this book, but I had trouble connecting to the characters. It‘s got a cute, Hallmark feel to it, but I felt like the storyline was a bit all over the place. The main character was also particularly gullible and annoying, leaving me wanting to shake some sense into her, and the people who wanted to help her, more than a few times.

I enjoyed the last Kelly Harms book I read, so I‘m hoping this one‘s a winner too! #letterm #litsyatoz

#TBRtemptation post 7! I like this cover. Lily, a young artist whose career has yet to take off and who can no longer afford her city apartment. While packing, she finds an annulment letter from 10 years ago from her husband. He left a wealthy tech job to return to the simple life in Minnow Bay. She rooms at the town's inn while reconnecting with her surprised husband and making friends in its thriving art community. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

Zelma Haven't easy this one yet but one of her others was a lot fun. Two women think they won a Dream Home contest, and refuse to leave once they both arrive to claim it. Hilarity ensues. (edited) 7y

It got kind of annoying sometimes, but the over-the-top obliviousness of the main character worked for her, too. And it totally made me dream of living in small town middle America. Which I would actually hate, but I'm a sucker for that ambience in a book!

After finishing A Mother's Reckoning I need something light, fifty pages in and I'm enjoying the writing.

My favorite indie bookstore is Next Page Books in the New Bo District of Cedar Rapids, IA. Author Kelly Harms will be giving a book reading and signing there is October! #getindie

A really cute beach read. Other people have told me this book could totally be the next Hallmark movie and they are right. My favorite aspect of the novel was the setting of Minnow Bay. Can I live there please? It reminded me of Gilmore Girls' Stars Hollow. Not a mind blowing read, but a charming one that's perfect for vacation.
