Calling all those knowledgeable in library loans. How do the APPs (Cloud Library, Hoopla, Libby) & physical loans work?
I hear that library books are free. Is that true? Who is ultimately paying for them? Anyone?
Are authors/narrators compensated?
I‘m just curious if the books/audios are somehow actually free or who is really footing the bill. Possibly just a random Sunday thought tangent but this is obviously the perfect place to ask. 🤷🏼♀️

Twainy @mcctrish I would think so but the loans are free. Where does the money come from? Do the authors see any money as the book is being bought once but loaned thousands of times. 4mo
mcctrish I‘m not sure what your question is? The libraries buy copies of books to lend ( they don‘t pay Costco prices) with tax dollars and we, the tax payers, benefit. There are limited copies, hence holds. Authors/narrators would benefit from the sale but not the lend. Would they prefer us to buy instead of borrow, yes but the point of libraries and public education and public health is to provide access to all 4mo
