The Secret Lives of People in Love
The Secret Lives of People in Love: Stories | Simon Van Booy
Breathtaking. . .chillingly beautiful, like postcards from Eden. . .Van Booys stories are somehow like paintings the characters walk out of, and keep walking. -Los Angeles Times In his critically-acclaimed debut collection of short stories, The Secret Lives of People in Love, Simon Van Booy explores the sway of fate and power of memory on the lives of lonely and vulnerable people. With the same spare, economical prose that he brought to his subsequent collection, Love Begins in Winter, winner of the 2009 Frank OConnor Short Story Award, Van Booy creates a profoundly humane and somber resonance with the assured hand of a first-rate storyteller (Newsday). The Secret Lives of People in Love announces the arrival of a major new voice in fiction.

#day21 #septembowie #fillyourheart with this poetic and melancholy short story collection... as much about loss and memory as it is about love. Gorgeous prose, where every sentence seems to carry so much weight.... Loved it. 💕

Regrammed from my Instagram: finally own all of Simon van Booy's fiction. Still have the top three books on the pile to read but I've loved what I've read by him so far ❤️ #toberead #toread #tbrpile #tbrqueue

#day17 #shortstories #booktober This collection is just so beautiful... and 'Apples' is one of my favorites in it , though there really is not one dud in this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️collection... this story is about an old man who sneaks into a derelict lot to plant apple trees in memory of his daughter.... 💗

#recommendsday My absolute favorite short story collection.... the writing is just gorgeous, and the stories heartbreaking.... ordinary people, ordinary lives, touched by love and loss....so melancholy and poetic. 💗💗💗
