Undressing Mr. Darcy
Undressing Mr. Darcy | Karen Doornebos
8 posts | 4 read | 7 to read
Taking it off in the name of history Thirty-five-year-old American social media master Vanessa Roberts lives her thoroughly modern life with aplomb. So when her elderly Jane Austencentric aunt needs her to take on the public relations for Julian Chancellor, a very private man from England whos written a book called My Year as Mr. Darcy, Vanessa agrees. But shes not excessively diverted, as Jane Austen would say. Hardbound books, teacups, and quill pens fly in the face of her e-reader, coffee, and smartphone Until she sees Julian take his tight breeches off for his Undressing Mr. Darcy show, an educational striptease down to his drawers to promote his book and help save his crumbling estate. The public relations expert suddenly realizes things have gottenpersonal. But can this old-fashioned man claim her heart without so much as a GPS? It will take three festivals filled with Austen fans, a trip to England, an old frenemy, and a flirtatious pirate re-enactor to find out

Mehso-so

Not the Worst but definitely not the Best Austenesque I've read. Had some fun moments and witty lines. Learned a lot about Darcy era men's clothing. But it did have some cringe worthy moments. "the entire skyline between her knees'. ?

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Skyline? Um, Im not even sure I completely understand that! 😦😳🤨 6y
CaramelLunacy I basically just went to rewatch Austenland after I finished, because JJ Field 6y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Here's the full quote: "He went down on her and brought her to the brink while the city sparkled on the shoreline. Her back arched with an ache for more and she quivered watching him, intent upon her, so generous, so tantalizing with her legs wrapped around his neck and the entire skyline between her knees." 6y

Crinoline_Laphroaig @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled There is also sex w/ another character in public restroom of bar at top of Hancock building. As they're tearing clothes off, I'm thinking ewwww your going to put those back on after they've been on the floor. 6y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @CaramelLunacy I really was being generous with the So So rather than Pan. 6y

Oh the things you can find on Google. Darcy reenactor in this book refuses to use technology. When I get to the sex scene I halfway expected him to pull out a replica of Jane Austen era condom. Is there such a thing? Hence Google. Which led to article on Literary Condoms: https://www.twincities.com/2017/04/19/independent-bookstore-day-minneapolis-st-p...

Crinoline_Laphroaig @Cheshirecat913 🤣This is why I love my Litsy friends. 6y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @julesG Cause nothing says glove the one you love like animal intestines. 😱 6y
julesG But that's what French Letters were made of, weren't they? Just asked Wikipedia, intestine, bladder or a linen sheath that was soaked in chemicals. 6y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @julesG This is why I love the internet. You learn all sorts of interesting things. 6y
julesG I knew about the intestines and bladder. Didn't know about the linen things. The internet is very knowledgeable. 😉 6y

"It occurred to her she needed more tea parties in her life. More dancing. More gowns. Less cell phones and computers.
More Mr. Darcy."

Crinoline_Laphroaig @emilyhaldi So easy to make. Spread good bread with store bought whipped cream cheese, slice a cucumber from the garden, sprinkle with salt and dill. #summerstaple 6y
emilyhaldi I will definitely be making😁😁😁 6y
Linsy What a beautiful tea set! ☕️ 6y

I can relate to this: "a strange amalgam of lady and modern smut-mouth. " ?

CaramelLunacy I got irritated with this one, I have to admit. 6y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @CaramelLunacy I keep thinking heroine needs to turn off her phone and go to yoga. 6y

I'm open minded to read anything but this... this was shoddy, poorly written, unrealistic and the use of hash tags in both social and real life moments of the main character was annoying.

Glad to have finished it though; another down for my #MtTBR list

The writing was choppy, there was no real flow. The beginning of the book was lukewarm, but it quickly went downhill from there. The characters were awful. They were unrealistic, shallow, insipid, and had no believable growth. I made myself finish it hoping for something redeeming in the ending. There was nothing. #MarchIntoReading #DidntLikeItStillFinished @RealLifeReading

I got this book in a grab bag at the Jane Austen Festival tonight. Came with really great paper dolls! So I guess I can dress Mr. Darcy again after undressing him.
