#criterion #adaptation

Worth noting here how satisfying it is when Janus Films gets around to restoring one of their earlier acquisitions for blu-ray. The old Criterion Musashi DVDs looked a bit butts.

Marvellous novel that gives us samurai life, adventures, romance and daily life of ordinary people of Japan. I got it why they say it's the Japanese Gone with the wind: huge novel that perfectly showcases us a period of time in Japan. " The novel is a portrait of feudal Japan, showcasing honor and friendship on multiple levels. (...) the novel reveals important cultural truths.(Kris Kosaka)" Feat.: Clary ? #Musashi

I loved this book. A long and winding read, but it held my attention throughout. I loved this for many reasons - the story of a man's search and work on self-discipline and improvement; the look into Japanese history and culture; the action; learning about the samurai. I highly recommend this book if any is that interests you.

He stopped along the way to look at several well-known temples, and at each of them he bowed and said two prayers. One was: β€œPlease protect my sister from harm.” The other was: β€œPlease test the lowly Musashi with hardship. Let him become the greatest swordsman in the land, or let him die.”

Loving this book so far.

Fighting isn't all there is to the Art of War. The men who think that way, and
are satisfied to have food to eat and a place to sleep, are mere vagabonds. A
serious student is much more concerned with training his mind and disciplining
his spirit than with developing martial skills.

Called "The Gone with the Wind of Japan", this classic novel narrates the adventures of a real life samurai and has sold over 120 million copies in Japan. I haven't read it yet but ... that cover! #bookssetinasia #SomethingforSept #setinasia

Hobbinol The sake set and book compliment each other perfectly! I want that book but I'm afraid it will clash with my celadon set.β˜ΉοΈπŸ˜‰ 8y
LeahBergen @Hobbinol Oooo, I love celadon. Maybe just take the cover off while you read? πŸ˜‰ 8y
