Lavinia | Ursula K. LeGuin
Mehso-so

I liked this for its philosophical insights and how the setting comes to life in Lavinia‘s day to day, and for this I would read again.

But wasn't sure in how at times the story is contrived in how it unfolds and for having characters that are all good (Aeneas) or all bad (Turnus (and later Acsanius)) – and so to me feels less real.

As expected, this is just a word-for-word manga form of the movie that would be perfect for Disney-loving reluctant or struggling readers. It was interesting seeing how they reworked songs into manageable dialogue that conveyed the same point. #Disney #Adaptation #Manga

The illustrations are absolutely beautiful! I grew up watching a movie adaptation, and read the book a few years ago. This is a fun, but in places distressing story. This beautiful adaptation does a fairly good job, but occasionally the pannel order is super confusing or the flow of action doesn't quite make sense like when the girl sees the branches that indicate there might be a hidden garden. #Comic #Adaptation #Classic

Not to be a buzzkill, but you most certainly did not! You just walked down a path and saw a bird singing, then told the gardener this. The pacing in this graphic novel is a bit weird 😅 #Comic #Adaptation

IndoorDame That would drive me crazy! And I had such high hopes for this. 2y
Kenyazero @IndoorDame It's really pretty so far! Sometimes you have to infer a little based on prior knowledge of the book, though, which is a bit disappointing. 2y

I'm not familiar with the German audiodrama this is based on, but the intro did a good job of catching me up. This was a cute manga and I'm sure the target audience will enjoy it quite a bit. To me, the characters felt super flat, and the premise was unclear. I thought Bibi went to Japan for a short school break, but it seems like she's staying much longer. I did enjoy the general cuteness of this volume though. #Witch #Manga #Adaptation

A cute adaptation of Greek mythology! I enjoyed the less than subtle mythology antics that the main character had no idea about throughout. It was a little weird that even though she didn't connect any dots on all of this mythology, she immediately has a guess on what the monster is. Overall, a fun middle grade graphic novel. #GreekMythology #Adaptation #Comics

There were some shining hilarity or character development moments in this volume, including the return of Scary Terry, the great follow-through between two issues where an end gag ends up being the next major plot point, & a short at the end where Rick and Morty are traumatized more than usual. Overall, though, this volume didn't quite have the same feel as the show. Timing, jokes, & characters felt a little underdeveloped. #Comic #Adaptation

A pretty fun 1st volume! Two siblings who have always loved Final Fantasy games work their way onto the Square Enix team, only to find themselves in a fantasy world following an accident. The world building is fun, the art is beautiful, and the characters are interesting enough. A little problematic when a character dealing with grief is advised to smile because the dead party member would have wanted it. #manga #fantasy #FinalFantady #Adaptation

I haven‘t read the novel, but the graphic novel adaptation was pretty interesting. I loved the Diaper Gang and their dedication to helping their community by just taking care of babies for free. The storm scenes were interesting, and added some fun drama. The setting is well portrayed as well. Content warnings for abandonment and economic hardship. #Comic #Adaptation

I love discovering Avatar comics I haven't read yet. This was a fun look at some of Suki's past, as well as what happened while she was in The Boiling Rock before the escape. #Adaptation #Comic #Avatar #TransmediaStorytelling
