This is my 3rd Fitzgerald novel, & I think my favorite yet. One of the things I love the most about her writing, is how unpredictable her stories & characters are. I‘d compare Fitzgerald‘s writing style to Muriel Spark. Each, brilliantly pack a punch in their short, intelligent & hilarious books. Like all of her books, the reader quickly becomes attached to her unique characters, & moved along w/ a charming wit & intelligence w/ each page turned.

erzascarletbookgasm Lovely review. I haven‘t read this author although I have one of her books on my TBR. 5y
catebutler @erzascarletbookgasm Thank you! She‘s wonderful and so much fun in a quirky and brilliant way. I really enjoyed, this and ‘The Bookshop‘. I do have a few more to read, but so far these two have been firm favourites. 5y

It was okay. There‘s nothing else to really add; the 20s are not my favorite time period for books to be set in, and I prefer when a place is a character in the story.

I‘m currently three books behind for my yearly reading goal. Hopefully I‘ll finish this today... not really enjoying it so far.

I liked the feel of pre-war Cambridge and its elitist colleges and debating clubs. I also liked the descriptions of London and nursing training, but there wasn‘t much story to keep me engaged.
My book club universally hated it, which is actually quite a feat!

However, I love the chalk art on the wall of my local cafe. It changes every few months and it‘s always stunning!

TrishB That is amazing art! 6y
CarolynM Looks like a great cafe🙂 6y
eraderneely @TrishB Isn‘t it? I love seeing what they will do next. 6y
eraderneely @CarolynM It‘s wonderful. I‘ve read quite a few books there. Although lately I‘ve been sitting at their outside tables enjoying the sun. 6y

I'm busy at work at mo so a bit out of the loop so I'll add this this review to reboot.
This is a reading group read and was a gentle read about a bachelor university lecturer meeting a sparky unusual young woman in 1912 Cambridge - not my usual read but nicely written and engaging characters. An author I've wanted to try for ages and enjoyed yhe story.

Cathythoughts I love the title. And I like the sound of this one ... stacked 6y

Starting this new read tonight and so far enjoying it, but oldest daughter madeleine came back from visiting a friend in Madrid today and here was my present, a guernica bookmark - i am extremely jealous that she has seen this incredible work of art - another place i must visit.

I'm really enjoying my chilly reading day today :) feels very cosy and toasty! Getting stuck into a new one I just picked up from the library- part love story, part ghost story and beautifully written :)

Redwritinghood I love her but I haven't read this one. Stacked! 7y
TheLondonBookworm @Redwritinghood this is the first book of hers I've read, I'm really enjoying it. Particularly the parts set in a London hospital I find it fascinating :) 7y

The women in the house are working for the suffrage movement. How will the men survive?

ValerieAndBooks I think this must still be a man thing, about what to do with leftovers 🙄! BTW I have this in my TBR -- think it will be bumped up now. 8y
Angelala007 @ValerieAndBooks do bump it up! The humour is subtle and brilliant. 8y

I loved The Bookshop and Offshore. This one, set at Cambridge in 1912 is ringing my bells so far 😊
