For three years, Detective Jude Fontaine was kept from the outside world. Held in an underground cell, her only contact was with her sadistic captor, and reading his face was her entire existence. Learning his every line, every movement, and every flicker of thought is what kept her alive. After her experience with isolation and torture, she is left with a fierce desire for justice and a heightened ability to interpret the body language of both the living and the dead. Despite colleagues doubts about her mental state, she resumes her role at Homicide. Her new partner, Detective Uriah Ashby, doesn t trust her sanity, and he has a story of his own he d rather keep hidden. But a killer is on the loose, murdering young women, so the detectives have no choice: they must work together to catch the madman before he strikes again. And no one knows madmen like Jude Fontaine."

Well, I survived the Midwest hurricane, also known as a derecho, with no damage but over 50 hours with no power. This meant a lot of reading time and rationing my Kindle battery. I absolutely adored this book and can't wait to read the next!

KathyWheeler I have a friend who just went through that too. I‘d never heard of such a weather event! 4y
aprilpohren I have been wanting to read this one. It sounds really good. We are in the Southwestern part of Iowa and got very lucky since the storm didn't reach this far. Crazy! 4y
Booknerd2 @KathyWheeler Me either, it was terrifying to watch. 4y

This suspense was a fast-paced read, and I thoroughly enjoyed every single page. There are more novels in this series so... I plan on diving right into another one.💦

Excellent page turner! In this novel, we are introduced to homicide detective Jude Fontaine, who was abducted and held hostage for 3 years. Now that she is free, she needs to put her life back together. The death of a teenager throws her back into her work, as she tries to follow the thin thread connecting missing persons cases with this murder. I can‘t wait to read the next book in the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Back in my favorite reading spot, in full sun in the morning. I am really enjoying this book! I have to pretend that I am leaving and exit the house through the garage, in order for the dogs not to sit at the front door and whine while I sit out here. 😂❤️📚☕️

SheReadsAndWrites I love that mug! ❤️ 4y
Aims42 Looks like a great reading spot 👍🏻 I laughed when you said how you have to leave the house LOL 😂 4y

The mosquitoes have arrived, making my outdoor reading less enjoyable. Brought a peppermint candle outside in hopes it will keep them away.

This book is SO good! It happens to take place in Minneapolis (with a homicide detective as the lead), which I didn‘t realize until I started reading it. ❤️📚🍺

RebelReader Stacking since I live in St Paul Minnesota. Love stuff set in my state! 4y

Anne Frasier has a book on the Amazon First Reads list this month. Based on the reviews, many of which said she was a favorite author, I looked into her other books. This series stood out to me, and is available on Kindle Unlimited. Decision made...Reading this thriller next! ❤️📚

I was close to bailing at chapter 27, but I'm glad I stuck with it.

Homicide Detective Jude had been abducted and held captive for several years. She managed to escape and got her job back. Now she tries to not only solve the murder of a young woman, but also the abduction of another teenage girl that happened 3 years ago, too.

The plot twist was obvious, to me, very early on, but it was interesting to see Jude get back on her feet.

I love when a book surprises me! One of my reading goals this year is to read randomly from the many books on my Kindle. I picked this one up on a $1.99 sale without knowing anything about it. I really enjoyed it...almost a one-sitting read for me. Jude uses her skills and senses, that were sharpened while she was held captive for three years, to track down a killer. I will definitely read more of this unique fast-moving series. #LitsyAtoZ #B

The kind of book you want to read on a flight from Seattle to London. You put it down --- but then it calls you and you pick it up again. Just enough surprises to make it worth the time. But when you're done you'll forget it in 15 minutes.

Surprisingly addicting! The story was super dark, and the writing a little disjointed due to the main characters trauma but I really enjoyed it. I'm bummed there aren't any more out yet!

Had no expectations of this book, picked it up from the new book section of the library. Really good, compelling and sometimes uncomfortable mystery. Hope it's the first of a new series.
