NATURAL WONDERS OF ASSATEAGUE
NATURAL WONDERS OF ASSATEAGUE | Mark Hendricks
1 post | 1 read
Assateague Island, primarily known for its population of wild horses and pristine beaches, is a magical place. Yet few people have experienced all of its natural wonders. Noted wildlife photographer Mark Hendricks has spent years exploring the barrier island and shares his passion for the area's incredible biodiversity in this stunning collection of more than 190 color pictures. Through his lens and words, he captures truly rare moments with some elusive creatures, including a river otter, snowy owl, black stallion, and the threatened piping plover. From the windswept beaches to inland forests and through all seasons, this personal journey is relatable to all who have visited, or wish to visit, this enchanted island off the coasts of both Maryland and Virginia.

EadieB @rubyslippersreads Misty was from Chincoteague Island. Assateague Island is in Maryland and Virginia but Chincoteague Island is only in Virginia where they have a pony swim on the last Wednesday in July. 4y

rubyslippersreads @EadieB I know, but my little-girl, horse-crazy self associates both islands with the ponies. 😊 4y
Cuilin Love it! #3 👍 (edited) 4y
EadieB @rubyslippersreads The ponies are on both islands and the ponies swims from Assateague Island in Virginia to Chincoteague Island in Virginia. Assateague is a barrier island that runs through both states. The ponies in Maryland are shot with birth control darts while they breed the ponies on Chincoteague. They auction off the ponies after the swim to raise money for the Chincoteague fire company. 4y
Cortg Fun! We‘ve been several times and camped in a tent at the Assateague state park. Such a cool place, the wild horses walked right through our campsite at night! 4y
EadieB @Cortg Yes it is a fun place! 4y
