11 posts | 11 read | 6 to read
In the first book in Eva Leigh's new Union of the Rakes series, a bluestocking hires a faux suitor to help her land an ideal husband only to be blindsided by real desire Lady Grace Wyatt is content as a wallflower, focusing on scientific pursuits rather than the complications of society matches. But when a handsome, celebrated naturalist returns from abroad, Grace wishes, for once, to be noticed. Her solution: to build the perfect man, who will court her publicly and help her catch his eye. Graces colleague, anthropologist Sebastian Holloway, is just the blank slate she requires. In exchange for funding his passage on an expedition, Sebastian allows Grace to transform him from a bespectacled, bookish academic into a dashingalbeit fakerake. Between secret lessons on how to be a rogue and exaggerated public flirtations, Graces feelings for Sebastian grow from friendship into undeniable, inconvenient, real attraction. If only she hadnt hired him to help her marry someone else... Sebastian is in love with brilliant, beautiful Grace, but their bargain is complete, and she desires another. Yet when hes faced with losing her forever, Sebastian will do whatever it takes to tell her the truth, even if it means risking his own futureand his heart.

Loved Seb, and enjoyed the moments of them dancing and preparing for fake outings. Very bridgerton-esque

A makeover book where the guy is getting the makeover? And fake dating his love interest? Sign me up! Seb is beautifully sensitive and considerate and we need more male characters like him. I love him so much and the fact that he loves and respects Grace for her brain makes him even better. I am so excited for the rest of these books and need everyone to read these amazing and progressive historical romances. #romantsy

Great Valentine‘s Day read! I loved the hero so much. I love the friends-to-lovers trope, but as friends I wished they would have communicated more. It would have solved all of their problems...

This started slow but I was in love after the beginning. This rang all my HR bells -- unconventional heroine, feminist, "woke" beta hero, both leads nerdy as hell. There was no high drama, only simple miscommunication about feelings driving the ultimate dilemma which I don't love. The Grand Gesture was satisfying and on whole, this is a lovable book even through the frustrating slow bits. I'm keeping this author on my radar.

This was so much fun to finish on Christmas! I love Eva Leigh books and how she tells a story! This is about scientist in love! A genderbent makeover trope where the man needs to be a rake so Lady Grace can catch the eye of another scientist. It all goes sideways when Sebastian and Grace finally figure out they love each other and made a huge mistake! It was good and fun and I need the rest of this series now please! Also the cover is amazing!

Lots of nerdy fun with a non problematic “rakeover” “for science,” & fun bits like the above.

ChasingOm I‘ve heard good things about this one, but this sealed the deal! 5y

While it lacked that ceetain something that makes me obsessed with a book, I was still really charmed by these nerds.
