Love Comes Softly introduced the characters of Marty and Clark Davis, whose tragic circumstances brought them to a "marriage of convenience" on the frontier prairies during the mid 1800s. The story of how Clark's patient, caring love mirrored that of the heavenly Father, drawing Marty to faith and to love, has captured the hearts and imaginations of over one million readers on Book One alone!

It has been a long time since I have read this book. Not my favorite series. I like this book. You get introduced to the main character that is present throughout the series. I rated this book a 3 out of 5 stars.

I honestly watched the movies first growing up and just now starting the books. It's surprising as how different they are. I'm pretty conflicted about it. I truly love the movie characters better. It is still a great read and worth your time if you are a fan of Christian Fiction like myself. I may regret not reading the books first.

nitro The books and shows are night and day from each other. But they are amazing. 5y

#BookMail

"First published in 1979, Janette Oke's beloved classic launched a new wave of inspirational fiction and inspired and captivated readers with its endearing story of loss and love. ... Millions have laughed, wept, and rejoiced with Marty and Clark Davis, whose tragic circumstances threw them together, suddenly and unexpectedly, on the frontier prairies of the late 1800s.”

Scochrane26 My sister has this set of books. She collected them as a teen. I remember reading the first couple but never continued. 5y

This was my favorite book when I was 10 or so. Recently I had a strong hankering to revisit it. I never reread books, but this one was a pleasure to see again. It's a reminder of the joys that can come from the greatest sorrows. It is very much a Christian romance, and the God stuff didn't do a lot for me (not to mention the casual racism). But I still found enjoyment in it.

Mehso-so

An OK quick read. The plot is paced well, and is captivating enough. It's lacking, however, in a few areas. There's a sad lack of dialogue, which is important for reading intentions. The characters aren't very three-dimensional, though somewhat lifelike. Lastly, it lacks opportunities for inference. All development is told directly, rather than left for the reader to discover. If you're looking for a short, decently satisfying read, I'd recommend.

I love frontier stories! I've been reading this series since my great-grandma shared her copies with me as a child. Clark + Marty have a marriage of convenience but grow to love one another as Marty cares for Clark's young child.

At first, Clark is as gracious as Marty is prickly. I love them so much! Her growth is as amazing as his patience. The subsequent books are based on their additional children.

The movie is good but leaves out so much.
