Forests, Fishing, and Forgery
Forests, Fishing, and Forgery: A Camper and Criminals Cozy Mystery | Tonya Kappes
7 posts | 8 read | 4 to read
Welcome to Normal, Kentucky where nothing is normal. It's Labor Day weekend in Normal, and if you know anything about camping and RVing, you know it's one of the busiest times of the year. Unfortunately, Daniel Boone National Park is in danger of being closed due to a drought and local businesses are scrambling for ideas to survive a possible shutdown. Happy Trails Campground is at the center of a murder in which campers as well locals are suspects. It looks likely that a local resident is responsible for the dastardly deed since the victim is the one person who had the power to shut down the national park, which would be devastating to Normal's small businesses. Follow Mae West as she searches for clues to get to the bottom of this Labor Day campground caper!

Bailedbailed

@julieclair #seasonalcozies September 2024

As you can see, I didn't get very far before I bailed on this one. I felt the author was trying too hard to be Southern, plus the main character talks like she was speaking to a 3-year-old.
In Western North Carolina, Appalachian: is pronounced Appa-LATCH-un. Sorry, but the northern pronunciation of this word was driving me crazy.

peanutnine I've had to train myself to say Appalachian correctly now that I live in NC. My partner gave me grief about it 😅 3mo
julieclair Great review. I can tell this series would get on my nerves. I‘m crossing it off my list of potentials. 👍 3mo

Fun and fast! I‘m really enjoying this series. Love the setting and the characters. The next book is a Christmas read so I‘ll wait until #WinterGames starts to listen to that one.

This one was so much fun! Fifi is due to have her pups at any minute, Hank‘s grandmother tries her hand at matching (Hank was like 😳) and we have 3 dead bodies that may or may not be connected to each other. Drought is looming - and the National Park looks like it will be shut down - which is not good news for Happy Trails or the town of Normal. Will be interested to see how this plot line develops. Another fun listen.

Kenyazero This sounds like an absolutely fun romp! 2y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Kenyazero, I mostly have audiobooks to listen to at work but I just had to know how it ended 🤣 a fun romp is exactly right! 2y

This is one of the better books of the series. There were some humorous moments, plus the typical mystery. I also liked seeing more of the relationships develop.

I borrowed this audiobook bundle from Hoopla (a bonus borrow for the month). Book 1 was disappointing (Maybelline “May” West was so freaking annoying and immature!), but it got better in book 2, and by book 3 I quite enjoy the people of Normal, Kentucky. However, the love triangle trope really doesn‘t do it for me — decide already, woman! #cozymysteries

Really, feel free to skip book 1 — book 2 provides all the necessary background.

Jadams89 Agreed, I need her to make a decision already! 4y

This is quickly becoming a favorite series for me. Welcome back to Normal, Kentucky, where a bachelor party will end with more than one casualty.
