on the windowsill
face the sun.
not me.
they need light more
than i need to see them.
perhaps the same principle applies
with the ones we love.“

You might think I‘m crazy with no concept of what actually qualifies as “cool,” but I feel like I accidentally took a cool picture when I was at my local bookstore yesterday. I had not intended to take a picture worthy of sharing. I simply snapped a shot of this book real quick so I‘d remember to add it to my wishlist later.

LiteraryinLawrence I think it‘s cool too! 4y

I'm very conflicted about this one.
While I see all the raw emotions that went into this collection; I absolutely detest the style in which it was written.
Some poems felt like word-vomit; just a bunch of thoughts that was quickly written down with no real point other than to get the feelings on paper. And while I appreciate the emotional turmoil the way it was presented just didn't work for me.

#39 a little poetry is always a great way to begin a day...and coffee, must get coffee 🤓☕️📚

Caffeinated_Reader This was a much needed breath of fresh air. A nice break from the fantasy and murder suspense I usually read. I do feel empowered and happy to have gotten a glimpse of what it‘s like to be her, with her thoughts and disappointments. I thought it was beautiful. 4y

2019 into 2020...these are the two books that I had in hand:
📖 When You Ask Me Where I‘m Going - a book of poetry for empowerment of lost women voices addressing “current cultural conversations including sexual assault, mental health, feminism and immigration.”
📖 Lily and the Octopus - a true-to-character pick by my irl book club. We love books about animals and their human companions.🐕💙

5/5🌟A compelling read and a beautiful debut! Kaur has managed to weave together prose, poetry and illustrations flawlessly to tell the story of a young immigrant mother escaping a life of trauma to raise her daughter in North America. I was drawn in immediately to this strong, impressive and unapologetic voice. So raw, real, and mighty. It will invoke a lot of emotions.Kaur has truly captured something necessary in these pages. #bookreview
