This one is so good. I love this author. An old man becomes the guardian of a young boy and they go to Nice to solve an old puzzle from WWII. Highly recommend. This was on my radar because I looked at going to Nice last year. And somehow ended up in VT on a bicycle. Weird.

TheKidUpstairs I really liked this one, too! I feel like it flew under the radar of some of her other works, but was a solid read. 3mo
TheBookHippie I generally like her books, I‘ll add this one to my library holds 😂 3mo
Suet624 Where did you bike in Vermont? 3mo

vlwelser @Suet624 Burlington on the old causeway in Lake Champlain. There's a freaking bike ferry! 3mo
vlwelser @TheKidUpstairs I thought I replied. I have covid. Blaming it for everything. 💯 agree. I thought it was somewhat better story wise than some of her others. Like there's a moral but it's not all doom and gloom. 3mo
Suet624 That‘s a fantastic ride. So glad you were able to do it. Isn‘t that ferry cute? 3mo
vlwelser @Suet624 so freaking cute. Also excellent bucket list item for sure. I love when those things turn up like happy little accidents. 3mo

Lovely book. Noah, 79, is leaving for Nice, France (where he was born) when he finds out that his great-nephew needs a guardian and Noah is the only relative that could be found. So Noah takes Michael, 11, with him on his trip. The two find each other just when they needed each other the most.

Such a beautiful story. I became attached to Noah and Michael and now am 💔 that they‘re not real people. It made me miss Nice too💛

BarbaraBB Lovely cover too! 2y

Rdg grp this week and this is one of our two bks which I probably wouldn't have read otherwise but proved a very gentle enjoyable story.Noah is 79 and having lost wife and sister is planning a trip to Nice where he was born + from where his mother + father fled taking the memory of his famous photographer grandfather. Suddenly he is left in charge of an 11 yr old grand nephew who joins him on the trip where he discovers abt his mother's war.

Crazeedi I'm needing to read another book by this author, the one I read I definitely enjoyed. 3y

Harvard Book Store presented Emma Donoghue last evening. She was a delight! I was surprised that the theater was not more full, considering the popularity of Room.
