The trouble is, Lillian has never seen a wisp of magic in her hills--until the day the cats of the forest save her life by transforming her into a kitten. Now she must set out on a perilous adventure that will lead her through untamed lands of fabled creates--from Old Mother Possum to the fearsome Bear People--to find a way to make things right.

I enjoyed this! It is an expansion of de Lint‘s “A Circle of Cats” (which I did read a long time ago, but don‘t recall). There are some nice illustrations throughout

This was a delightful book; exactly what I needed as a break away from my usual nonfiction fare.

"Is-is she nice?" Lillian wanted to know.
The crow laughed. "She's a possum that's part witch- what do you think?"

Only a few pages in, and I'm already hooked.

Despite being nearly 300 pages long, I finished this in two sittings since the pages are absolutely full of beautiful illustrations. I would have loved this one as a kid.

This is such a cool book to look at. The story is by Charles de Lint but the art is Charles Vess. I met Vess last year and was kicking myself for not buying this series from him then. Luckily my library has it. I did score an awesome signed poster at least.

Aaaaaand because my last post was more on the serious side, here‘s a photo of the Floof! (She and I both know that‘s why you‘re really here. 😸)

She‘s looking forward to the tagged book on our de Lint journey. There should always be cats.

My #recommendsday pick. I read this aloud to my children, and we were all enchanted by it. Beautiful illustrations and lovely (though dark) story. Wonderful modern fairy tale.

Bibliogeekery Is this book scary? 8y
Titania No, not really scary. It is a little sad in places, though. My daughter was probably in 1st grade when we read this, and she did fine with it. 8y
