Despite being nearly 300 pages long, I finished this in two sittings since the pages are absolutely full of beautiful illustrations. I would have loved this one as a kid.

This is such a cool book to look at. The story is by Charles de Lint but the art is Charles Vess. I met Vess last year and was kicking myself for not buying this series from him then. Luckily my library has it. I did score an awesome signed poster at least.

Wow. This book was a pure joy. I picked it up from the juvenile section of the library expecting a quick, fun read but had no idea it was so good! The language is complex and beautiful and the story was so well told.

I can picture this as a movie so easily that I‘m almost sad it doesn‘t exist. The picture it painted was that clear, lol.

This has delighted me both times I've read it; short and sweet with a feel-good message. Perfect for fans of L. M. Montgomery or Frances Hodgkin Burnett. #jfic #juniorfiction #fairytale

When a book starts with this quote and 5 pages in you already have sweaty eyes, you know why it won a National Book Award. #pax #sarapennypacker #nationalbookaward #jfic

The story is pretty good but the writing and plotting are wrong for the intended audience. I found myself skimming pretty heavily to get past a lot of the descriptive passages and I'm not sure many young readers will be able to get through it. #jfic #juniorfiction #fantasy
