"Although she did not expect to fall in love herself, she could not deny that such a state existed and that it could be beautiful to behold when it did."

A few pages in and we are reaffirmed of Agnes' views on romantic love

"At the age of twenty-six, Agnes Keeping had never been in love or ever expected to be—or even wished to be."

Thus begins the tale of Agnes, who seems to be comfortable with her lot in life.

Another survivors club book which had been hiding in the pile. I think I've got a summer cold coming and this is great comfort reading. (Photo taken on the train at stupid o'clock this morning - check out the pretty sunrise!)

Mary Balogh has a great talent for writing historical romance characters who are both interesting and believable. This story of a wounded soldier is well worth a read if you like historical romance.
