I first encountered this story through the 1975 film with Michael Caine and Sean Connery and enjoyed reading it on the ever wonderful @SerialReader .
I find reading Kipling to be a bit troubling, (what, with all that “white man‘s burden” crap 💩) but the story itself can be read from a 21st century lens as well.
Short, and brutal, this story is well written and thought provoking.
