Killer Look | Linda Fairstein

"New York Times" bestselling author Linda Fairstein delivers a heart-pounding thriller that explores the dark secrets of Manhattan's iconic fashion scene in her latest Alexandra Cooper novel. New York City is one of the fashion capitals of the world, well-known for its glamour and style. Nowhere is this more apparent than on the runway, where American haute couture continually astounds with its creativity, daring, and innovation in the name of beauty. Yet high fashion means high stakes, as Alex Cooper quickly discovers when businessman and designer Wolf Savage is found dead in an apparent suicide, mere days before the biggest show of his career. When the man's daughter insists Savage s death was murder, the case becomes more than a media sensation: It is a race to find a killer in a world created entirely out of fantasy and illusion. With her own job at the DA's office in jeopardy, and the temptation to self-medicate her PTSD with alcohol almost too strong to resist, Alex is not anyone's first choice for help. But she is determined to uncover the grime and the possible homicide beneath the glitz. Along with detectives Mike Chapman and Mercer Wallace, Alex must penetrate the twisted roots and mixed motives among the high-profile players in the Garment District. The investigation takes the trio from the missing money in Wolf Savage's international fashion house to his own recovery from addiction; from the role of Louisiana Voodoo in his life to his excessive womanizing; and to the family secrets he kept so well-hidden, even from those closest to him just as things are about to get deadly on the catwalk. With "Killer Look," Linda Fairstein proves once again why she is the Queen of Intelligent Suspense. * *Lee Child Linda Fairsteinwas chief of the Sex Crimes Unit of the district attorney s office in Manhattan for more than two decades and is America s foremost legal expert on sexual assault and domestic violence. Her Alexandra Cooper novels are international bestsellers and have been translated into more than a dozen languages. She lives in Manhattan and on Martha s Vineyard."

This is the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In the book, a retrospective fashion show of the designs of Wolf Savage (#awolfatthedoor), who has been murdered, takes place here, and the investigation is in full swing! And a wolf head button is a clue! Although I was looking forward to a NYC fashion mystery, this was disappointing. Maybe just too much explaining of things I already know! 🤔 #octoberxfiles

Billypar Too bad it wasn't better because it seems like it would be fun to read a good Met mystery at the Met. You could go to the real rooms where each scene takes place 🕵️ 6y

Just returned my audio book, and it‘s time to choose a new one! This is the only time I go in without a plan. Picked this one, and happy to report that I discovered it has been on my Goodreads TBR since 2016!

#SeptemBowie #day17 #Fashion This is Bk18 in the Alexandra Coooer series by former sex crimes prosecutor, Linda Fairstein. This outing is set in the high stakes design world of New Yorks Fashion Week. When designer Wolf Savage is found dead of what appears to be suicide days before his runway show, Alex is called in by his daughter who insists it's murder. When the investigation turns up missing money & family secrets, fashion turns deadly.

DivineDiana Stacked! Love a fashionable setting! 7y

My first read by this author. I enjoyed the mystery part of course, but I really liked how well she explained the fashion industry. Very detailed and informative but wasn't boring or hard to follow -- the perfect balance for me. I will most likely read another in the series just not sure where to head next! I have to admit that I really didn't like the tough treatment mike seemed to be giving Alex. Hoping that changes or is better explained.

#Characters2017 #day30 #ScruffyHeadedNerfHerder I couldn't decide between Tempe's Detective Andrew Ryan & Alex's DI Mike Chapman for this prompt so both are my pick. Both are stubborn, relentless & annoying, but they're also brave, loyal & kind.Mike in particular will joke his way through any situation but they won't hesitate to throw themselves in front of a bullet for pretty much anyone.I've always pictured them both as a Han Solo type in my head.

18th book in the series and I'm afraid it shows. The plot was ok about the fashion industry, but ADA Alexandra Cooper is becoming more whiny and reckless by the minute. She hates that everyone is trying to keep her out of a case but she is on leave following the ordeal she went through, it's common sense she shouldn't be on the case. Annoying. Rating: 3/5

Least favorite of her books. Plot was slow moving and for those not following the fashion industry, boring and hard to follow. Characters were flat in this novel

One down, ten more to go. And that's just from today's #bookmailmonday. I love Fairsteins Alex Cooper series, it started to get a bit wobbly a couple of books back, but the relationships between Alex, Mike Chapman & Mercer Wallace kept me coming back for more. Plus the fact the author was originally a DA in the Manhattan sex crimes unit, gives the books a sense of authenticity as well. A solid crime novel about the death of a fashion designer in NY.
