Fables Vol. 18: Cubs in Toyland
Fables Vol. 18: Cubs in Toyland | Bill Willingham
8 posts | 15 read | 4 to read
For years, Snow White and Bigby Wolf's cubs have grown up knowing that one of them was destined for a much greater, more grave role amongst the Fables community. But no one knew how soon it would come. When Snow and Bigby's cub Therese receives a Christmas gift from an-unknown admirer, this red plastic boat magically takes her on a journey to a desolate place known as Toyland. Will Therese be their savior? Or their destroyer? FABLES VOL. 18: CUBS IN TOYLAND is the latest epic from New York Times best-selling author Bill Willingham's hit series FABLES, as the Bigby Wolf cubs learn that adventures in the land of misfit toys is much less fun than it sounds. Also collected here are all the backup stories that feature Bufkin's exploits in the land of Oz, beautifully painted by Shaw McManus (CINDERELLA: FROM FABLETOWN WITH LOVE).

That was really dark...Therese gets pulled into Toyland and becomes queen of the broken toys, but begins to starve with no living things in the land. Her brother, Darien, comes to save her on the tiger‘s back, who she has killed to eat 😳 Then Darien makes some magical cup, which now feeds Therese, come to life after he kills himself on a sword 😦 Yikes. Toyland is restored. Then a little story with Bigby and Fate. Pretty messed up volume...

“Only silly Dorothys arrive in a magical land and want to go home. You don't want to be a silly stinking Dorothy, do you? They're reviled throughout every wondrous land. Did you know the name Dorothy translates as ‘squandered opportunity‘?”

vivastory Oh, yes. One of the more heartbreaking volumes. 6y
rubyslippersreads I have to stick up for my girl Dorothy. 😊🌈 Luckily, unlike the movie version, her literary predecessor has many adventures in Oz. (edited) 6y
Zelma Oh, this book. ❤️ it tore my heart out and stomped on it. 6y

When books make me cry, it is usually because I am moved or inspired, finding a connection between myself and a character or work, resonating with truth. Very rarely do I sob in true, sheer grief. This volume of Fables, however, had me doing just that. I crawled into my significant other's lap and bawled. #somethingforsept #septphotochallenge

Zelma Yes times 💯! This book gutted me and is the sole reason I tell people to stick with Fables even when it falters a bit. ❤️ 8y
RealLifeReading Sigh. I never managed to keep reading Fables mostly cos my library had all these random issues. One day! 8y
aeeklund @Zelma Me, too! "Well you COULD stop after the Adversary is defeated... Or you could have your heart ripped out and stomped on... Keep going!!!" 8y
