Miller is a talented essayist, and he uses his incredible writing skills to examine his life as a gay man in the 1970s. A powerful book, a necessary book. 5/5 stars

Originally published in 1971. A Thought-provoking book/essay about being homosexual in the United States. Just two years after the Stonewall riots, Miller wrote a poignant essay for the New York Times Magazine entitled “What It Means To Be a Homosexual” in response to a homophobic article published in Harper‘s Magazine. Described as “the most widely read and discussed essay of the decade,” Great short read.
This was the shortest book I read this year. It‘s an essay with a long introduction and some modern follow up. #allthebooksof2017 day 2
Brilliant essay recommended by @LewisJKennedy I think the second afterword was slightly unnecessary but otherwise loved it and I'm definitely going to pick up some more stuff by Miller
Another recommendation from a friend, eventually I'll get back to my own books but I'm excited to read this
Next up for #24in48! My support team might all be slacking off though, what do you think?
Thanks @Hooked_on_books for bringing this little gem to my attention with your killer TBR!
I never heard of this book or saw its lovely cover until today. So now I have to add it for the #stripes prompt even though I'm late and I already posted a different book yesterday. Haha #junebookbugs
Appropriate pride reading with On Being Different by Merle Miller. Got this one yesterday at Three Lives & Company, one of my all-time favorite nyc bookstores which unfortunately may have to move from it's iconic (and beautiful) West Village location.
