Rich Man, Poor Man
Rich Man, Poor Man: A Novel | Irwin Shaw
9 posts | 7 read | 8 to read
This bestselling novel portrays the clash between two brothers amid the turmoil of postwar America. Its a book you cant put down (The New York Times). Siblings Rudy, Tom, and Gretchen Jordache grow up in a small town on the Hudson River. Theyre in their teens in the 1940s, too young to go to war but marked by it nevertheless. Their father is the local baker, and nothing suggests they will live storied lives. Yet, in this sprawling saga, each member of the family pushes against the grain of history and confronts the perils and pleasures of a world devastated by conflict and transformed by American commerce and culture. A memorable novel by one of Americas greatest twentieth-century authors, Rich Man, Poor Man offers a gripping ride through America between the Second World War and Vietnam. It was made into one of the first primetime TV mini-series, and starred Nick Nolte, Peter Strauss, and Susan Blakely. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Irwin Shaw including rare images and never-before-seen documents from the authors estate.

TheBookgeekFrau @marleed I haven't either, yet. I remember my mother being glued to the TV for the mini series, and my husband remembers his parents glued to their TV. 2w

How shallow do you have to be to believe that you're better than everyone else just because you have more money?

Bookwomble Donald Trump's humility has no beginning. 5y
Amiable And he inherited a large chunk to begin with. He didn‘t ever have to work hard and get his hands dirty pulling himself up by the bootstraps like most of us did. His father gave him the freaking boots. 5y

This book was adapted for a #1970s TV mini series which was essentially responsible for the career of Nick Nolte. #letstraveljuly

Even though I've read some good books lately, I feel like I've just been treading water. Life has been so complicated the past few months, so maybe now is a good time to challenge myself (just a little) and really give my brain something to do. This classic has been on my list for awhile and so far, it's pulled me right in: a good sign
