Hush Hush
Hush Hush | Laura Lippman
11 posts | 16 read | 4 to read
No one is quite who he or she seems. Hush Hush is the story of Melisandre - rich, beautiful, possibly insane - who has to live with the knowledge of a devastating event in her past. She has not seen her two daughters, now aged fifteen and seventeen, in the ten years since the notorious family tragedy. And her husband has moved on, married now to his personal trainer, and seemingly happy. As Melisandre returns to Baltimore from South Africa, however, there are suddenly more mysterious deaths. And quite what did happen all that time ago has never been clear - what role had each of the members of this unhappy family played? And is anyone telling the truth? Tess Monaghan, now the mother of a young girl herself, makes a return as the investigator who gets snared in the case. A hugely powerful and emotive novel about parents and children - about destructive parents who think they love their children and good parents whose children are the centre of their lives - it is also a superbly plotted mystery novel, one which will keep you hooked until the very final page.

FEATURING: HUSH, HUSH BY LAURA LIPPMAN

Did she or didn't she?

Melisandre was found not guilty, but was the charge of insanity the correct charge? How could anyone not be guilty of forgetting her child in a hot car?

This was the first book that I‘ve read from both this author and this series. I don‘t know that I‘ll read another book from this series although I‘d be willing to give the author another try. I found the protagonist to be highly irritating and unlikeable I found myself rooting for the foil who was way more interesting. Overall not a good read although there were a few good parts mostly quips by Alanna and a couple of scenes with Tess. #LPMBC

sweetpealsd @Lovesbooks87 did you receive this book yet? 5y

So this was... okay. Lol. I didn‘t love it. I didn‘t even like some of the plot. I am Very Sensitive, so anything that happens to kids really really upsets me. I did like the main character though.

@sweetpealsd The book should get to you on the 8th! Sorry I didn‘t get it in the mail sooner! 😫

sweetpealsd It‘s all good😊 5y

Crow has a wife (Tess) and kid in Baltimore. He‘s annoying as hell, but he‘s too much of a mensch to take a ride and never look back. #hungryheart #marchintothe70s

Cinfhen Let‘s hear it for the mensch 🥳🥳🥳🙌🏻💕 (edited) 6y

Pickpick

This was a quick, compelling read. Lippman's plots sometimes get a little convoluted, and some of the detail about supporting characters can be a little distracting. Reading more of her books might help on that front, since even minor characters reappear. I'd recommend this if you're looking for a well-written, quick mystery.

Really enjoying this book so far, which was on sale at B&N last night. I like Lippman's style.

I did it! I wanted to make progress on all my series this month, & I did - the latest Frieda Klein, the second Deanna Madden, & alllllll the Tess Monaghans I hadn't yet read (8!). With the help of the #bookisholympics, I buckled down & got so much reading done this month. Whoo hoo!!! On to the next one... er, 4 ...

megt Well done! 8y
