Death of a Nag
Death of a Nag | M. C. Beaton
7 posts | 10 read | 2 to read
From the author of the Agatha Raisin television series...DEATH OF A NAG: A Hamish Macbeth MysteryLochdubh constable Hamish Macbeth is more dour than ever after losing both his promotion and his girl, the loyal Priscilla Halbourton-Smythe. A trip to a charming seaside inn with his dog Towser is meant to raise his sagging spirits. Instead, he arrives at "Friendly House" to find the ambiance chilling, the food inedible, and his fellow guests less than neighborly. There's an amorous spinster, two tarty girls, a retired military man, a secretive London family, and Bob Harris, who so nags his wife, Doris, that everyone wants to kill him. Then somebody does. Soon Macbeth is called upon to act -- to dig into the past and deep into the heart to deliver something more daunting than merely the culprit: Justice.

One of my favorite cozy series (especially fun to listen to the narrator‘s Scottish brogue). I did guess “who dunnit”, but still enjoyed hanging out with lovable, goofy Hamish.

Hamish‘s life has reached a watershed so he heads off on holiday, but as usual wherever Hamish goes murder follows. Another excellent book in the Hamish Macbeth Series with plenty of twists and turns as he eventually figures out what happens. A good surprise at the end, and a sad moment in the book too which will change Hamish. Heartily recommend this light and entertaining series.
This takes me over 16 hours on the #24in48 #Readathon

Suet624 Nice job! So much reading! 6y

Finished the section of the Group Read of Cold Earth for today. Almost 9pm and feeling tired so making a drink, having a snack and going for some lighter reading. Staying in Scotland with Hamish Macbeth for a book I‘ve already started. #24in48 #Readathon Now become a 12.5in27 Challenge! That feels a lot lore manageable!

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Awesome time!!! 👏🏻🙌🏻 6y
Andrew65 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Thanks! I had been aiming for 11 hours today so very pleased with 3 hours still to Midnight. I got so engrossed in The Pillars Of The Earth that it helped and got stuck in traffic so audiobook also helped! 6y

Been taking on a lot of big reads over the past week and as a result not finished any books yet this week, so thought I‘d finish off Saturday night with a light entertaining read and return to the Scottish Village of Lochdubh with Hamish Macbeth. A favourite series. #yearofthechunkster

1. A few months.
2. The Hamish MacBeth series by MC Beaton. My mom rec'd it as an easy, non-gruesome series and I inhaled the whole series immediately.
3. If I'm sick I can't read, but I do like rereading The Age of Innocence for comfort.
4. Sadly, online. 😕
5. I don't remember, I've always been reading. My Mom was always reading & I wanted to be like her.
6. I go with it, but will try to be kinda quiet about it.
7. Ability to PM someone!

LectricSheep PMs would be so fun! 7y
[DELETED] 3216391035 I agree about PMs! 7y

GypsyKat Great answers! Now I have to look up that series, I by most of my books online as well, and I totally agree with you about PMing on here! 😊 7y
batsy Yes, was just thinking about PMs too :) 7y
LauraBrook @LectricSheep @Basia @batsy Fingers crossed we will get them in an update some day! @GypsyKat It's somewhere around 30 books long, and it's killing me that I have to wait until next February for the new one! Wish I would do more in-person shopping, but with all of the freeway construction around my house for the last 5+ years, it makes me not want to go out in traffic and do things I don't have to. 7y
batsy I have not read the Hamish Macbeth books, but I do love the series with Robert Carlyle. Have you watched it? It's so quirky and brilliant ☺️ 7y
LauraBrook @batsy Yep, I had to order the series from the U.K., and as of a couple of weeks ago it's finally streaming. ??‍♀️ I like the series, but there's a lot "wrong" with it compared to the books. Like only 3 or 4 names are in the books, and they mashed together plots from several books in single episodes really weirdly. But I still like it! If you read the books, be prepared to be confused a little. ? 7y
batsy @LauraBrook Ah, OK. It's been awhile since I watched it, so in a way that's good because I've forgotten the plot points 😂 But thanks, I'll keep that in mind if I get around to the books! 7y
