Say Her Name
Say Her Name | Zetta Elliott
9 posts | 7 read | 8 to read
Inspired by the #SayHerName campaign launched by the African American Policy Forum, these poems pay tribute to victims of police brutality as well as the activists insisting that Black Lives Matter. Elliott engages poets from the past two centuries to create a chorus of voices celebrating the creativity, resilience, and courage of Black women and girls. This collection features forty-nine powerful poems, four of which are tribute poems inspired by the works of Lucille Clifton, Audre Lorde, Nikki Giovanni, and Phillis Wheatley. This provocative collection will move every reader to reflect, respondand act.

DrSpalding Education.com is a good website and this looks like a wonderful anthology that certainly connects to current events. The genre is clearly poetry and could be used for partner reading, independent poetry readings or read aloud. 4y

Anyone else vacillating between anger and despair? I feel like 2021 is going to come in and say “hold my beer” .
Sharing a book that is relevant to today. Has anyone read it?

Ruthiella Every day Chrissie, every day. ☹️ I feel so powerless. I know and am related to many who are just fine with the status quo and see no reason for change. 4y
Amandajoy Yep. Trying to find an island I can move to. I fear it‘s only going to get worse. 😞 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Yeah, I might have yelled "Are you ? kidding me?!" in the lobby at work. I just can't believe it. I see people wishing the year would just speed along into 2021 but there is no guarantee it won't be so much worse. 4y
