Happier
Happier: Learn the Secrets to Daily Joy and Lasting Fulfillment | Tal Ben-Shahar
7 posts | 5 read | 11 to read
Can You Learn to Be Happy? YES . . . according to the teacher of Harvard Universitys most popular and life-changing course. One out of every five Harvard students has lined up to hear Tal Ben-Shahars insightful and inspiring lectures on that ever-elusive state: HAPPINESS. HOW? Grounded in the revolutionary positive psychology movement, Ben-Shahar ingeniously combines scientific studies, scholarly research, self-help advice, and spiritual enlightenment. He weaves them together into a set of principles that you can apply to your daily life. Once you open your heart and mind to Happier s thoughts, you will feel more fulfilled, more connected . . . and, yes, HAPPIER. Dr. Ben-Shahar, one of the most popular teachers in Harvards recent history, has written a personal, informed, and highly enjoyable primer on how to become happier. It would be wise to take his advice. --Ellen J. Langer, author of Mindfulness and On Becoming an Artist This fine book shimmers with a rare brand of good sense that is imbedded in scientific knowledge about how to increase happiness. It is easy to see how this is the backbone of the most popular course at Harvard today." --Martin E. P. Seligman, author of Authentic Happiness

I‘m not sure why I don‘t love this book. As always listening to self help books makes me feel better despite whatever the book is saying. Perhaps the subject matter being positive is helpful, or the introspection is helpful. But overall, I had a sense of well being while I listened to this.
However, there was something else, some undercurrent I can‘t quite put my finger on that makes the whole thing ring a bit false.

8little_paws Well DUH 6y
Lola @8little_paws Right?! Like it‘s even a question 😂 Although... there are some books that threw me into a dark dark place and required some serious recovery time-I‘m looking at you 6y
8little_paws I'm reading this book now which is riveting (seriously, so well done. So many people involved and so many details, this book could have been a mess or completely dry and it's neither) and honestly it's like top 5 depressing books 6y

Wow - this has been quite a week. I need to read something fun and/or lighthearted to help me pull out of this funk. Turns out that even though I have stacks of books at home and on my Kindle, none of them are really screaming "read me!" Help!

#TBRtemptation post 2! Tal teaches Harvard's most popular, and life-changing, course. Grounded in the "positive psychology" movement, he provides scientific studies, scholarly research, top-tier self-help advice, and spiritual enlightenment. His goal: to make you feel happier. Why not? ? #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?
