Sitting in a hotel room in middle-of-nowhere Texas. But at least I brought good company! I‘m enjoying this so far...just the right amount of creepiness and suspense.
Scheduling surgery the week of Thanksgiving isn‘t a weight loss plan I wouldn‘t recommend. 😝 I also thought I would spend my 2 weeks off work reading up a storm, but the 📚 pile has barely been touched. Maybe tomorrow I‘ll finish 1 of my 3 in progress...
All of my library holds came in at once! I am already halfway done with Exit West. There are so many commas in this book! Love Love Love the writing though. I can‘t decide which to start next! 📚#libraryhaul
I never had to read this in high school or college English, so I figured in my mid-40‘s it is about time. I feel like everyone over 15 has read this but me!
After reading a book with a sociopathic bad guy that was a bit too similar to my recent ex, it is time for something that makes me laugh. Eddie Izzard will do that every time. #doyouhaveaflag
Wow - this has been quite a week. I need to read something fun and/or lighthearted to help me pull out of this funk. Turns out that even though I have stacks of books at home and on my Kindle, none of them are really screaming "read me!" Help!
The perfect beach read that didn't make it to the beach with me last week because the hardback copy didn't fit in my suitcase. Oh well! On my couch with Almost Famous - a huge favorite - playing on the 📺 for background noise is a close second. #SUMMERGIVEAWAY @Liberty
It is hard to concentrate on my book when this is my view this afternoon. #vacation #roatan #thisiswhyiwork
I love love love Kristin Bell and this is like reading an episode of the show. ❤️
How could I pass up something recommended by Rainbow Rowell, Roxane Gay and Jenny Lawson?! I've only read 10 pages and I already know I am going to follow Samantha Irby. #litsypartyofone
On a long road trip today, so listening to this. Hopefully my drive won't match the book title! 🚗
The Circle creeped me out, so it is time for a light read before my Salt to the Sea buddy read. This should do the trick! (And make me wish I was in one of those chairs right now...) ✈️🏖🍹
I'm 1/3 through and it is so hard to read right now....so much needless killing of animals by the Nazi army. 😭 #animallover
I finally broke down and got a pair of reading glasses. I don't need them all the time yet, but too many hours studying massive spreadsheets and reading over the years made them inevitable. 🤓 #ageisjustanumber
This is what is going to keep me entertained during the storms that will be rolling through town this weekend. ⚡️🌪⛈ #springcleaningreadathon
Time for a palate cleanser! Lots of heavy WWII fiction and psychological thrillers lately, so I need a fun, light-hearted read tonight. Fool it is! Then maybe this weekend I'll get to Fates and Furies...
I have a feeling I am going to be up late tonight to finish this one. I just started it last night but can't put this one down!
One of my favorite children's books! My nephew would laugh until he cried each time I read this to him when he was younger. His laughter was (and still is) the best sound in the world! #readathonanimal @Liberty
When you have a busy day, starting with medical tests, then conference calls, then a 1pm flight, it is nice to take a few minutes to relax with a book. And it has such a beautiful cover! #readingrelievesstress
Road trip today, which is the perfect opportunity to finally listen to this audiobook!
My "nephew" is such a cutie. And every night he stays at my house he wakes me up with a hug. ?#nationalpuppyday
"You need a haircut. Your legs are too long. You're skin is a waste of space because there's no heart inside of you." Now THAT is an insult. ?
I can see why people are talking about this one. Well written, but man does it make me feel squicky. I am 40% through and want to see what happens next. #LitsyReadingChallenge #LitsyRC10
Day 20: #marchintoreading #seasoninthetitle A sample of the diverse list of books on my shelf with a season in the title. I've only read one of them so far. I need to get busy reading! 😜
I left this book at a hotel in Austin several weeks ago and finally got it back! It took several calls to the hotel's housekeeping dept, but finally....success. Going to read it this afternoon before my team plays 🏀at 4:15. #tournamentofbookslonglist #litsyreadingchallenge #LitsyRC24
I need to stay away from bookstores. No idea what I was thinking today. 🙄 I guess the bright side is at least they were all heavily discounted (got them at the used bookstore) and I read a diverse list! #needatwelvestepprogram #needanotherbookshelf #booksalwaysmakemefeelbetter
This was a light-hearted read that many have compared to Forrest Gump, with good reason. It few a little tiresome about 3/4 of the way through, but I still would recommend it as a palate cleanser after something dark or heavy.
I am utterly exhausted after waking up at 3:45am today for an early flight, but I keep telling myself "just one more page..." This book is so elegantly written and descriptive that it is worth staying up a little longer. I want to finish it by the end of the week! #iwillalwaysmaketimeforagoodbook #sleepisoverrated
Loved meeting Martha Hall Kelly tonight! She told a number of stories about the real life versions of her characters and 2 prequels that are her next projects. One involves Caroline's mother and Russia and the other is about Caroline's grandmother and the Civil War. Can't wait!
So excited! Tomorrow evening Martha Hall Kelly is going to be in Dallas at the flagship Half-Priced Books for a book signing!
After a rough few weeks I went against my self-imposed bookstore ban and went to Barnes & Noble. I needed to get a book light to replace one I left at a hotel by accident recently. Oops. This is what happens when I go in a bookstore.... And on top of that, Amazon had a ton of great deals on ebooks and audiobooks today! #bookhaul #bookproblems #needmorehoursintheday #booksmakemefeelbetter
One of the coolest things about the Paris Opera is their library room! They have copies of all of the operas & plays performed there.
I wanted to like this book. I usually enjoy dark suspense thrillers, and a few people I usually agree with on book reviews enjoyed it. Not sure if it didn't have enough suspense, was too predictable or the timing was wrong for me when I read it, but it was really hard for me to get through the middle third of the story. The first third flew by, though, and the ending was quick, even if a tad disappointing.
At times the story is hard to follow because it jumps around in time and POV, but passages like his make it worth the read. I'm really enjoying this literary debut.
"He finally looked up at her, and it startled her, how he looked the same as he always had. Shouldn't someone look different once you've caught them in a lie, once you've seen them truthfully for the first time?"
Great line. ??
I can't put it down! It will be a miracle if I can fall asleep tonight.
Feb 15th: books and treats! A novel that was highly recommended with a couple of my favorite afternoon treats! (When it isn't swimsuit season, that is... 😜)
#riotgrams
An early V-Day gift from the boyfriend. He knows a book makes me light up more than chocolate! I want to read all of them right now, but I am most excited for The Patriots. A debut novel and historical fiction - 2 of my favorite things!! It is about Russia and the Cold War.
How in the world am I supposed to decide what to read next? And this is just the tip of the library iceberg.... 🤔 I'm leaning toward A Gentleman in Moscow or The Mothers. Thoughts?
