The orphaned duke takes her in from the gaslit streets, against the wishes of his band of misfits. And Finley thinks she might finally be a part of something, finally fit inuntil a criminal mastermind known as the Machinist threatens to tear the group apart.Included for the first time in print, meet Finley in her first adventure The Strange Case of Finley Jayne the novella prequel to The Girl in the Steel Corset!

Bailedbailed

I read the e-book that comes before this book, The Strange Case of Finley Jayne and I really enjoyed it. This book, however, just bored me. I could never really get into it, and it had several grammatical errors that I felt compelled to correct. I found myself spending more time correcting the errors than just enjoying the book. And reading, after all, should be a joyful pastime. 🌟🌟

To look at, this book is beautiful! The cover, the cool clockwork illustrations on the pages, even the title was intriguing. It was boring, honestly, and it featured a trope that I hate, one of my friends gave it a name: the bejeweled vagina. It describes a girl who always has the attention of everyone, even though the author maintains repeatedly that there is “nothing special” about this character. I normally don‘t bail on books. Like ever. 😕

tjwill Bejeweled vagina! I love it! 😂 6y
PenguinInFlight @tjwill me too! When I saw her first GR review featuring that, I died laughing. 😂Luckily I‘ve read some really good books and haven‘t gotten to use the term, but this one just didn‘t do it for me. 6y

This book had me nervous, pissed, and roaring with laughter. It was great.

The cover designer of these books was more worried about #fashion than the story. The cover DOES NOT match the story. Finley Jane never wear a gown let alone a red gown. She doesn't wear red at all. Rather purple and black stripped tights. #septembowie

Looove this series so much. Finley, Griffin, Sam, Emily and Jasper are such a great group of friends who always keep each other on their toes. I've been really into #steampunk as of late and looking for more to read.

I don't often steampunk... but I remember liking this one (but I believe it was a series - which I'm not sure why I didn't pursue)

I no longer have the book but please enjoy this picture of my white shelf - complete with a baseball mad nutcracker and slinky dog ❤️ #seasonsreadings2016

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Cinfhen, thank you! 💙 my bookshelf is currently organised by colour, so I should start posting shelf by shelf! 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Tanzy13, I find it so hard to pick favourite Toy Story characters... but Slinky Dog is definitely one of them! 7y
WanderingBookaneer No, the rest of the series in in my TBR pile. 😊 7y

This is supposed to be a #steampunk book. I love steampunk and I liked this book. But this is one of those cases where the book did not match the cover. The girls, Finley, never wears a red dress or a corset. She wears short skirts with black and purple tights. I read this way back in 2012 but still remember this inaccuracy. Full review on Goodreads.

readinginthedark There has to be someone wearing a corset, though, right? 'Cause of the title? 7y
LibrarianRyan @readinginthedark yes, but I can not remember who or why 7y
readinginthedark @LibrarianRyan 😆I wonder sometimes how they choose titles! 7y
Larkken Glad to hear it's good! I read the prequel but haven't yet made it to the series proper. 7y
LibrarianRyan @Larkken it wasn't great but it wasn't bad. 7y

The first entry in the Steampunk Chronicles, which I've been reading out of order because of library holds. This series has a little bit of either so there's probably something for everyone - supernaturalish elements, steampunk, a touch of romance. There's good character development across the series, so far, and the different stories do overlap.

LibrarianRyan This is one of those books where the cover does not match the cover. 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @LibrarianRyan I know, and it's a bit ridiculous. 7y
