I enjoyed the 2nd book in this series just as much as the 1st! Jaron is an incorrigible but highly lovable young king. I can‘t wait to see what he gets up to in the next book!

“Wherever our lives lead us, one thing is certain. You and I will always be connected. You might be able to deny that, but I can't. Even I am not that good a liar.”
—Imogen
As I mentioned in a previous post, this is my third time re-reading this book and I always enjoy it no matter how many times I turn the pages. After spending so long in this series with these characters and their stories, it‘s so comforting and fun to go back through the books every so often. The dialogue is witty, the emotions are realistic, and the humor/action/adventure is on point. Highly recommend!! 👑✨

“The field was empty now. The grasses had been laid flat by more than one game played there, but in the center of it all, a single wildflower caught my attention. It was bright purple and stood erect where a hundred others around it had been smashed. I wondered if it had somehow escaped harm, or if it had been stepped on before but refused to lie down.”

Decent follow-up to the first book. I actually think I liked this one more than the original. I still can‘t get over something about the King‘s character that just drives me wild- is it the savior complex or the cockiness? He is supposed to be only 16, so I suppose those qualities are in line with his age. Still.
I‘m two thirds of the way through and I want to know what happens next. But I‘m getting nervous because it could all go wrong at any second now and I don‘t want to read about it. Ohhh - the tension!
Sage wants to protect Carthya from the Avenian pirates, so he decides to try and join them.
Sage‘s continuing adventures, while improbable in real life, the way he gets out of tight situations, are still enjoyable. His brash character helps him. I do admire his dedication and determination to do the best for his country even though he wasn‘t trained for it. It does lead him to unconventional solutions.
Another fabulous book, another great surprise and another reason left to read book 3... Highly recommended!
It‘s a finish-books kind of day. This series is excellent but for some reason (too many books on the go at once maybe? 🤔) I struggled to pick this one back up. I also felt reaaaallllyyyy nervous for the main character and that didn‘t help. Can‘t decide whether to dive into book 3 or go have a break. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Though there were a few things I would've changed, it's still an amazing book. In the first book, Jaron acts like he just cares for Imogen, in this one he realizes that he loves her. If you've read the first book and liked it, this is a must read!
Do you fancy pirates? Or perhaps comedy wrapped in adventure? Then this book is perfect for you!
It is brimming with adventure and set my adrenaline on fire! I devoured this book (and his successor The Shadow Throne) in only a few hours! A must read for all ages. Once again, it isn't suffocated by romance- it actually has the perfect pinch of it. I loved every page of this book and am infatuated with it. Definitely is one of my top reads!
This is a funny, upbeat adventure with a clever protagonist. I never hesitate to put this series (starting with False Prince) in the hands of reluctant readers -- especially boys.

Crookshanks looks so regal. ;)

I can usually power through a so-so ebook reading it in small spurts but I think it's time to cut my losses. I'm sure younger fantasy/adventure readers would enjoy it, though. Plus my ebook expired like 2 weeks ago, and rather than renewing I just filled my Overdrive library with things I'll actually enjoy.
