Welcome to Litsy!

Sarah Hagger-Holt‘s contemporary novel for children aged 9+ is a sensitive look at what it‘s like to have a parent who realises that they need to transition. Although it‘s very much an ‘issue‘ book, at times I think it soft soaps some of the prejudice that trans people face by merging it in with generic teasing and bullying. However, saying that, it is a book with a lot of heart and a strong theme of friendship that children will enjoy.

Beautiful & poignant. A well written story detailing how a young teen finds out about her dad who is ‘transgender‘ and her struggles on how she comes to terms with the fact that life for her family will never be the same. If I‘m honest I don‘t know much about the subject area but it‘s really opened my eyes up. The story was thought provoking and made me consider my beliefs too. A brilliant book which I would definitely recommend 👍🏻
