Outside Over There | Maurice Sendak

💙 Indoors - We had elaborate Barbie play. Big family trees, backstories, lots of drama, VERY soap-operatic. Outdoors - CAPTURE THE FLAG! So many great memories of playing this in our neighborhood.
💙Book - Someone got me a copy of Outside Over There when my sister was born. It had quite an impact, but also creeped me out! Movie - The Wizard of Oz. I loved when it was on TV once a year - we always made it a big event.

1. We used to play this word game that was kinda like Scrabble but one word at a time. I don‘t remember what it was called. Outside, my friends and I would make up elaborate scenarios and act them out then judge our acting.

2. I saw The Sound of Music with my family when I was pretty young, and I‘ve loved it ever since then.

1. Games! I have always loved games. Favorite indoor would have been rummy with grandma. Or Monopoly with a girlfriend - literal marathons! Outdoor was epic Hide go Seek on the farm with my cousins…we could go all day! Or kickball, 4-Square, Frisbee (recently resuscitated by my college kid, yay!) or Chinese jump rope.
2. The Boxcar Children, early spotlight on social problems.

Tagging @JenReadsAlot @Kshakal @dabbe

Bklover I loved all the same games! I had forgotten Chinese jump rope! 20h

1 - My mind instantly went to what we played during storms when we had to turn off the lights and TV - the ABC game -"I'm going to California and I'm going to take...., Initials game - one would give the initials of someone famous and others would ask yes/no questions,

2 - Little House (tv and books) I loved them so much and remember crying when I read Caroline's racist remarks, "the only good Indian is a dead Indian." My pawpaw was native.

Butterfinger ☝️it was not explained well to me as a child. "That was normal back then." #WondrousWednesday @lilybird wanna play? 1d
