#wondrouswednesday

1) It happened to me today!! My secretary made a homemade chocolate cake. It was yummy but different from any cake I‘ve eaten in years. When I went into our break room later the smell hit me! It was my grandmother‘s chocolate cake! The memories just flooded in!
2) One summer carrying my rag doll cat, Mama Yeller, over my shoulder while pulling my little red wagon with milk jugs of water to water my tomato plants, which thrived!

Eggs Oh what sweet memories 🍅 5d
Texreader @Eggs I loved these questions. So nice bringing back special memories! 2d

1. Definitely, iron-y water takes me to grandma‘s. I‘d love another hug from gram.

2. Often music jogs my memory. I recall hearing Jackie Blue in the gold Pontiac GTO on the way to the beach with my mom. I might have been 3 or 4. I have so many music memories with my mom. I‘m grateful for those songs and the memories wrapped in them. ❤️

Thanks for the tag @TheSpineView @Kshakal

Texreader Love this memory about your mom and music. I have the same reminisces about my mom when were in the car together listening to music. ♥️ 🎶 5d
Eggs Love these memories! Music really induces favorite memories ❣️ 5d

1. Favorite smell = a desert rain. I have wonderful memories of big rains (which were a huge deal in Phoenix) where my mom, grandma, sisters, and I would all sit on our back porch together: watching, listening, smelling, talking, laughing. 💙
2. A vivid memory of being in the back seat of our sedan after my dad's baseball game (he was a coach), with my mom and dad in the front seats. I have never felt as secure since. 💙

Eggs Lovely memories and a sense of safe & secure! 5d

Pickpick

#WondrousWednesday @Eggs 1) While I was reading this most excellent tagged book which I highly recommend, there was much smelling and drinking of coffee. I love coffee but coffee doesn‘t love me anymore. But I swear I could smell and taste the coffee while I was reading. And I started craving it. 2) One of my fondest childhood memories is of my paternal grandmother pouring some of her cream and sugar coffee into a saucer and feeding it (cont)⬇️

CatLass007 to me with a spoon. My grandmother died when I was quite young so I don‘t have a lot of memories of her. That‘s why this one is especially precious to me. @julieclair Thanks for the tag!☕️ 5d

1. There‘s something about the smell of bacon and eggs that takes me back to lazy Saturday morning breakfasts when I was a kid.
2. I remember playing on the deck my grandfather built at their house, as well as “helping” them pick strawberries.
Thanks for the tags.

Suet624 I haven‘t eaten meat in 55 years, but the smell of bacon always gets me salivating. 5d

I love these questions!
💙My favorite is the smell in the air in the summer before a thunderstorm - it always reminds me of a perfect afternoon of swimming and camaraderie with friends at summer camp before a big storm ended up rolling in.
💙Hunting for faeries in the neighborhood with my BFF (who is still my BFF 30+ years later). We also performed spells in my backyard in a little fort we made under a pine tree.
#wondrouswednesday

AmyG Yes! I love that smell. I always run outside and look if I know storms are coming 5d

1) Roses because my grandma wore Tea Rose perfume daily and lilacs because of the large lilac bush by the front door of her house.
2) I was just talking to my dad about this. Rather than a specific memory it was our years in Ephrata. Sledding down suicide hill, riding our bikes all over town, playing out in the dry fields, spending our afternoons at the pool. It was definitely a different time in terms of safety and freedom.

Suet624 Those two scents carry the most meaning for me as well. 5d

1. The smell of beeswax always makes me think of the Wren Building in Williamsburg, Virginia. I had a lot of classes there in college, and the stairway railings were polished with beeswax. They always smelled so good!

2. One Christmas, when I was 8 or 9, my grandmother gave me a huge Barbie doll wardrobe that she had sewn herself. She was an excellent seamstress, and the clothes were beautiful.

Want to play?

Susanita ❤️Wren Building 💚💛 5d
CatLass007 Did you go to William and Mary? I can‘t remember what‘s in Williamsburg. There are so many great universities in Virginia that it‘s hard to remember them all. I‘m a JMU graduate and it is also my maternal grandmother‘s alma mater, way back when it was Harrisonburg Normal School for Women. I still have her college ring, Class of 1921! 5d
Eggs Excellent scent memory! Oh the Barbie memory! Mom and I sewed a Barbie wardrobe in the early 1960s! 5d

julieclair @Susanita Yes! 💚💛 Did you go to W&M? 3d
julieclair @CatLass007 Yes! William & Mary. You‘re right about there being so many good schools in Virginia. That‘s a great story about your grandmother. And how amazing that you have her ring. So special! 3d
julieclair @Eggs How fun for you to have sewn Barbie clothes with your mom. I wish I had spent time sewing with my grandmother. 3d

CatLass007 My Mom grew up in Lynchburg and she always remembered the words to the VMI fight song. Her two older brothers went there and one played football. Everyone who knows, knows that it‘s the Medical College of Virginia and will never accept being called VCU. For some reason Mom didn‘t want to go to Madison College and chose to attend St. Joseph‘s College in Emmitsburg, MD. I know she never had a bad experience with a nun in grades 1-12 so (cont)⬇️ 3d
CatLass007 didn‘t think twice about a women‘s college run by the same order of nuns. We won‘t talk about my miserable experience growing up in West Virginia with a different order of nuns. The universities and colleges in Virginia aren‘t just schools, they‘re great institutions! 3d
Susanita Yes! W&M Class of‘83. 3d
julieclair @CatLass007 My husband grew up in Danville and Lynchburg, and still shudders when he talks about some of the strict nuns he had as teachers. He went to Catholic school K-12, but is Presbyterian now, with me. 3d
julieclair @Susanita I‘m Class of ‘79. We just missed each other! 3d

Smells Like Heaven | Sally Cooper

1. For me it‘s the smells of nature…freshly mown grass, crisp air in fall, the smell after it rains….that remind me of certain times in my life.
2. Halloween as a kid. We would trick-or-treat for hours! And get big candy bars. And dump our candy on the floor to separate. So much fun.
@Eggs #WondrousWednesday

Lesliereadsalot And then after all the Halloween candy was separated we would trade. You too? 5d
AmyG @Lesliereadsalot No. I was the only kid home. I would give what I didn‘t like to my father and he would eat it. 🤣 5d
dabbe Yes to big candy bars! And popcorn balls wrapped in Saran wrap or tin foil! We were more trusting in those days. ♥️ 5d
Lesliereadsalot Dads are always good for any leftover candy! 5d

Happy Wednesday!

I. The scent of lilacs echoes spring in Minnesota as a child. The scent of peonies is connected to Mom💗

II. Our neighbor Emma had a gorgeous flower garden surrounded by a white fence and beautiful gate-slice of heaven.

iread2much 1. Hot cooking oil - on weekends my Obaasan and I would make special fried foods for the family, mostly gyoza and katsu chicken, and everytime I smell hot cooking oil I remember those weekends. 2. I‘m not sure what especially clear means, but I remember the evening I got to buy my very first new book and how exciting it was. I looked at that book for months at borders and saved for at least 2 months before deciding to buy it (edited) 4d
